Well it has been over ten years for us to get used to our new stadium, but how does it compare to our Springfield Park home?

FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

Seeing as we have 14,000 fans that never went to Springy this poll could be interesting.

        Springy for me anyday.

Has to be Springfield, despite the amount of fans it was a better atmosphere and it was home. The new stadium has better facilities but doesn’t give me the same feeling for some reason.

Springy to a small boy going to his first ever Latics game seemed enormous and an unforgettable experience. I was hooked it was a special place. The supporters club can never be bettered or will ever be replaced. Springy was our ground our home the DW is just a stadium

People need to ditch the rose coloured specs,

Springfield Park was quite frankly embarrassing!

I started going in 1971 and for a non-league club was quite good, but once we were elected to the league trips to Port Vale,Tranmere,Bury and even Stockport put it all into perspective,Springy was a dump!

I liked the quaintness/tweeness of Springy but it’s the JJB all the way for me. I’m a thoroughly modern man.

I’d have to agree with truelatic4eva in that alot of people view Springfield Park through some misty eyed romanticism.

It was an absolute dump with poor views & even worse facilities. The atmosphere was never particularly great either coz you only had that very small pocket at the back making any sort of noise & even then it was all trapped under that low roof of the st Andrew’s side so if you were anywhere else in the ground you could barely hear it.
It was allowed to decay over the years & by the end was embarrassing – was it Paul Parker who turned up to sign at Latics, took one look at the ground & said “I’m not playing here” & promptly got back in his car & f00ked off

That said, it had its charm, history & it felt like home no matter how much of a dump it was

DW wins hands down these days.

The appreciation of sitting down in a comfortable stand without getting p*ssed wet through goes hand in hand with the growing appreciation of homely pubs and real ale.

Pass me my backy tin and pipe Margery….

id rather have my credit card style season ticket than the old book, but we could watch the reserves for nothing then, happy days

Since i’ve never been to ‘Springy’ it’s the DW for me.

Although I miss the smell of winter-green on a freezing cold Tuesday night under the dodgy floodlights. . . . . The option of being able to stand up. . . . . Staring across at the Phoenix Stand. . . . . Cramming around the exits with 5 mins to go. . . . . Eating chips from a cone. . . . . Etc, etc, etc.

It’s got to be The D.W for me.

The memories will never leave me, but as stated in earlier posts, it was a dump, but it was OUR dump.

                  RIP Springfield Park.

                    Horses for courses I think.
The footballing aspirations of Wigan Athletic have changed dramatically since the Springfield Park days so it’s inconceivable to think we could ever have watched Premiership football there. It served its purpose and retains fond memories for me.
The problems is, if and when we return to the lower divisions with the obvious drop in attendances the DW would become a very sterile place and a revamped SP would be much more welcoming.

Or for you lurking egg chasers is it Central Park or DW. This picture was a sad day for me. Not because it meant the end of an era but because the stand was empty at the time ! It also meant our pitch would never be the same again !
