I was never old enough to experience Springfield Park, so I had to go for the DW. Frankly, I’d be a lot happier if one day we have our own stadium (again), but with the size of Wigan I have no idea where the egg chasers would move to.
If you ‘re not old enough to experience Springy then you’re not old enough to be bitter about the rugby either. Get off the bandwagon.[/quote]
Why is that? Grew up in a family that predominantly support rugby, and Warriors in particular. My dad on the other hand supports Saints, if he has a mind to; so I’ve always grown up having a dislike of Warriors. Granted I have no reason to be bitter, but I acknowledge the rivalry we have with them and surely that’s enough for me to express my views on it.
To come off the slight tangent and get it somewhat back on topic, is there anything about either ground that you dislike(d)? I think the parking at the DW could be a lot better, but it doesn’t really affect me any more because we park in the one way streets off Ormskirk road.
11 June 2010 at 1:18 pm #36883Surely you are kidding about the parking aren’t you? There are few grounds in the Premier League with as much parking available as at the DW.
If you’re on about the £4 charge, then which other grounds are you going to get free onsite parking at?
11 June 2010 at 1:37 pm #36886I know that people must do, but I can only think of one person I know who actually drives to away matches. I’ve done so only once (Reading – when we lost in that play-off semi) and it was horrible driving back. I only did it because I’d recently passed my test and thought it would be a belting road trip, couldn’t drink or anything, never again.
Average to good Parking facilities by the way. If my memory serves me right, The Madjeski has a similar set up to DW, only their Stadium for me is better. Sorry for tangenting (admittedly not a word)

It’s a good word. Keep hold of it because it might be deemed acceptable soon.11 June 2010 at 5:00 pm #36913Anonymous

OK, admittedly I wasn’t basing this on many other places – we used to park up in the first couple of seasons but it’s just a lot quicker when we park in the streets around Robin Park – the only people that would beat us home are the people that leave with ten+ minutes to go :|
12 June 2010 at 1:55 am #36977my memories of springy were the:
1) fans changing ends at half time to where latics were attacking
2) the “charge” or mad rush at the end of the game.
3) the toilets! (?)
4) sitting on my dads shoulders to see the game & pi55ing off the people behind us.springy will always have memories, now its the dw to create memories of its own.

You seem to be answering your own question so no need for me to bother.
