Understatement considering some of the bile I heard directed at the players at the final whistle.50 years and the abuse from a section of arse wipes was as bad as I’ve ever heard. One knob shouted ” the best thing for this club is liquidation “. A young team being assembled as the season progresses. A manager trying his best to build a squad with a small transfer kitty……..yes I think tactically he could have done better but ffs the last thing these young lads need is their confidence shredding so soon in the campaign, if ever. ….I was disappointed but like a lot of us I applauded them off…….they didn’t go out there to lose so screaming insults is a sure fire way of demoralising them.
No players ever go out to lose or play crap. I am sure of that.
I will not aim any abuse at the players directly, but Caldwell I would. At the end of the day he is manager and so far, his selections and some other things are worrying.
Whether he is doing the job with his hands tied or not…and he clearly is, responsibility for performances falls on his shoulders. As it does any manager and that’s why Emery will probably walk from Villa, with what’s going on there.
I like Caldwell, in the main. But…
He wasn’t amazing last time as manager. Yes, we won League One. But we started off terrible in a poor standard league. He was lucky to keep his job. His bigging up of certain players is staggering as well, and he has made some strange selections already this season. (Chapman at Cambridge when he had no pre season and Mellish full stop, instead of Fox)
The keeper installs no confidence, the defence give goals away for charity, and the ‘strikers’, and that’s being very kind, couldn’t hit a barn door between them. It’s a bad recipe that.
Ultimately if we fail, one man pays the price.
My fear is I reckon we’ll see Maloneyball again before long, constant tinkering, players playing out of position (square pegs round holes) ultra defensive Maloney style with nothing up top, lots of passing around at the back, 25 passes just to make the half way line.
We won’t concede many but we won’t score that many either, the club have taken enough from player sales and put not one bit of quality back into the squad, we have less than a week to add some quality or we will be rooted to the bottom of this league.
You can understand the fans frustration, at any other club there would be protests all over the shop, not at Wigan we just sit back, take it then let rip at the players, it’s the hierarchy at the club doing the damage!
Fuck the EFL
Everyone has a right but with kids well within ear shot it was the language, and I mean bad. Any other stadium the stewards would be on them immediately,but when things aren’t going well its terrible to have to listen to.
I’m concerned about the keeper who looks dodgy as hell, but it maybe because tickle looked so good.
I’ll reserve judgement on the outfield lot until October once they’ve had time to gel, but it’s gonna be tough with stevie wonder in goal.
Hopefully the new keeper said to be coming in will shore us up a bit. But he also needs a pro-active defence in front of him.
If Caldwell hasn’t learned a few things this summer, he never will. One of the biggest is don’t lose your keeper and 2 main centre-backs in one fail swoop. I did actually think it was a lot of change all at once, and my god, I was right. That rapport, that knowledge of each others play…like Tickle is a left footer so they knew to play it back to him to his left…little things like that. Its no wonder they’ve played like strangers…they near enough are!
Last couple of seasons we’ve had so much change in and out of the club. Its too much. I’d love to know how many players we have used since Danson purchased us. I bet its a daft amount.
