Adkins signed for Latics in Summer of 1986 from Tranmere by Ray Mathias. He was an ex England Schoolboy International. Made his Latics debut at Blackpool , in a Division Three Fixture when Assistant Manager and regular goal keeper Roy Tunks dislocated a finger ( Sat 20th Sept 1986 ) Lost 5-1 . He shared the goal keepers position with Phil Hughes , before later making it his own . He went on to make 155 league appearances …. 192 in total . Latics next keeper would be Simon Farnworth .
