I feel we’ve reached a pivotal moment in our season. Similar albeit a different division to 2 years ago around this time of year.
Is it glass half full and we will start to score more consistently whilst staying solid in defence leading to a play off position or is it glass half empty and we start to leak goals whilst not scoring consistently and it’s the relegation zone very soon?
Time will tell, sadly I’m not optimistic given Maloney’s negative tactics…hope to be wrong!
It will all boil down to injuries to the back 4 that will determine our season. If 2 fall foul at any point were fooked.
I just cannot for the love of me see how we can start scoring goals unless Maloney changes his ingrained defensive possession style of play.For me the key is M.Smith. Now some fans will call me clueless but I’ve seen a few flashes of brilliance from him to see what he’s capable of but you can’t do that while your stood at the side of Kerr and Aimson.
This is how I see it:
M.Smith drops back in whenever Chambers or a defender goes forward. Now you’d think “Surely that’s another players job ?” Yes it is but we don’t have one.Aasgaard is an forward attacking player along with Weir and as for Adeeko? he simply isn’t good enough.
In the summer we should have gone out and brought in an older headed defensive midfielder mirror image to Tom Naylor just to allow M.Smith and others to play up the pitch.
The balance for me is all wrong especially in the middle this starving Hugill and Taylor. I feel he’s shoehorning players in. Aasgaard Weir and M.Smith does not work simple as
