Stoke’s message boards still churning out more lies than a politician
“Stans minute totally direspected totally and utterly by these ‘non football fans’. The ensuing riot fairly and squarely blamed on stoke(yes reacted badly but provoked)( but clearly initiated by them as i witnessed it) and not helped by an ‘all ticket’ game having tickets sold on the day . I know this how ? . I was an incognito stoke fan sat in their main stand bought the ticket at their turnstile. Saw the whole thing and then drove home listening to one of their directors blaming it entirely on stoke on radio manchester ..a bunch of lying gobshytes. Just one example … plenty more”
13 August 2019 at 8:27 pm #180357Have you put them straight?
13 August 2019 at 9:30 pm #180360No.
You have to be a member and I can’t be bothered registering.
Let them wallow in ignorance.14 August 2019 at 12:05 am #180367As I recall it that day, the silence was being well observed inside the ground. The disruption and noise came from late arrivals OUTSIDE the ground, and even then I am sure it was from visiting supporters.
Theyll never admit it though.
14 August 2019 at 12:09 am #180368They even had idiots in the west stand singing….they caused that day all ther shithouses was out in force.
14 August 2019 at 12:25 am #180370I was in the tunnel.
We helped co-ordinate the logistics of the memorial which consisted of the silence and laying of wreaths with representatives of both sets of supporters. There were groups of Stoke AND Wigan supporters.
The silence in the ground was beautifully observed by both sets of fans with some noise (as always happens) from outside the ground by people who don’t know what’s going on (in fact as said from the North Stand, but wherever is irrelevant, inside the ground by people who knew what was going on observed it perfectly).
Both sets of representatives came off with due respect, and the game started.
After a while, so not at all connected with the silence, a group of Stoke supporters in the West Stand made themselves known with songs and chants.
A senior steward colleague made an incredibly poor judgement to escort them down the West Stand steps and across the front, instead of as he should have done down onto the concourse and outside and across outside the back of the stand and let them in by the corner gate.
The Stoke fans started up as they were led down the West Stand and the Stoke fans in the North Stand responded with Delilah.
And at that point all hell broke loose.
Nothing whatsoever to do with Stanley Matthews.
But hey. Let’s not let facts get in the way of a perverted and prejudiced and blinkered view.
I was actualy there at the heart of it.14 August 2019 at 1:16 am #180372Yeah a few own fans got banned through that shit.they shouldnt have been in that end for a start.
14 August 2019 at 1:40 am #180374It would definitely have been worse had Marshall and Kipre played..
Cook out before we leave the EU?14 August 2019 at 2:05 am #180378I was in the tunnel.

15 August 2019 at 6:35 pm #180413out. dont care.
16 August 2019 at 12:13 pm #180428What eventually happened that day had its roots in the days before the game itself.
If I remember rightly, the game was all ticket as the police couldn’t handle anything remotely approaching a decent turn out.
Stoke had been given 3.5k tickets of which there were tons left (as I don’t think they were doing particularly well) until Stanley Matthews passed away & then they disappeared in a matter of minutes & Stoke requested more – unfortunately as it was so close to the day itself (Friday possibly) Latics (and the police) said it wasn’t possible. Stoke & their fans were complaining heavily about it
Latics however made the extremely stupid decision to then publicise that tickets for the home end would be on sale until noon on the Saturday – This was in the days before the database system & I got the train into Wigan from Atherton that day & it was full of Stoke fans who’d already twigged on to this & had either already bought tickets in the Wigan end or were on their way to
Yes they shouldn’t have done it, but many of us will have gone in the home end when unable to get tickets with the Latics faithful & I know that I have – it happens and the sale & publicity of when the tickets were on sale until was badly handled by LaticsTo the game itself – I do remember isolated individuals disrupting the minutes silence inside the ground & they were shouted down by both sets of supporters. But it did happen
Garswood’s description is then pretty much spot on other than that the Stoke fans had been brough through the concourse before being brought back out & down the stand steps in full view of everyone. What I would say though is that when that small group of Stoke fans were being escorted down the steps the fans in the away end started singing Delilah. Stupidly those going down the steps joined in in a show of bravado. The Latics fans reacted, one shouted “Are you taking the ####”, a Stoke fan told him to “**** off” and the Latics fan hit him. Stoke fans hit back, more Latics joined in & then many of those in the away end came over to join in
I was sat next to the aisle & about 5 rows up from where the first punch was thrown & I can guarantee you it was thrown by a Latics fanAnyway, my rather long winded point is that there’s a lot of factors that contributed towards that from Stoke fans not initially buying tickets, through to Latics publicising home tickets were still on sale, to Stoke fans getting those tickets, the stewards unbelievable decision to do what he did, those fans joining in that chant & a Latics fan throwing the first punch and others not being able to handle seeing an away fan in the Latics end without wanting to hit them, to those stoke fans being there in teh first place & acting like prats. Various sides with various vested interests have always spun their own version of it & the one that seems to have stuck in the wider consciousness is Brenda Spencer’s “It seemed to be a pre-planned co-ordinated event” interview she gave to the media afterwards
Stoke fans for their part spin the minutes silence disruption myth – in a crowd of say 10,000 I’d say 3 or 4 did that16 August 2019 at 1:18 pm #180429Good post TL

Stoke fans for their part spin the minutes silence disruption myth – in a crowd of say 10,000 I’d say 3 or 4 did thatRegarding Stoke, as the were marched down the steps in the WS and singing a Wigan fan allegedly:) stuck a out a leg and accidentally tripped a Stoke fan up and the rest was history.
