Just for the record, I started watching the Latics before we got promoted to the so called Promised Land ! Does anyone remember the heady days of that first season in the prem when Uncle Dave rightly or wrongly started to sound bite about plans for Europe ! Oh how things change eh !
And why shouldnt have he said that, at the time wasnt it Fulham who go into Europe and we werent that far off in 10th.
People on this site, what do you expect a Wigan PR Spokesperson like Droopy !
I think you may have misconstrued my post ! I was trying to say that back then it was a vision Uncle Dave had and I did quote ” Rightly or wrongly ” because not everyone at the time shared his optimism. 6.3 seasons on and that vision has disappeared into the ether because he didn’t have the know how and/or the money to back up his sound bites ! From what I have seen since out 10th place finish in our rookie year is no ambition or drive to better this once very small club ! Horc mentioned ONeil as possible replacement for RM and why not ? Some think that is an absolute no chance scenario yet he is the first name banded around the media to replace Sven at Leicester ! I can imagine some on here saying that Leicester are a bigger club than Wigan ! What hope do we have then of even competing in the Championship come the day we yield our foothold in the Prem ! If Leicester are a bigger club than us then so are at least 15 others in the Championship !! We earned our place in the highest tier and I just think it is sad that we did nothing to better ourselves and get rid of the laughing stock monkey on our shoulder !!
If Leicester are a bigger club than us then so are at least 15 others in the Championship !!
Now you’re getting it!!
Probably more than 15, in the whole football league[/quote]
Griff, are you saying that we are not worthy of a place in the Prem or the Championship perhaps ? Where do you see us in 10 yrs time ? I think that if we go down that will be the start of steady fall from grace so to speak ! If we continue in this current vein then I can see us in league one within 5 yrs maybe even earlier ! I just think its a shame that we had the chance to move up a level and for varying reasons it hasn’t happened !
Whelan as said in the past he hates gambling in any form. He got his son sectioned because he found out he had stuck a £500 bet on a horse. what was are great leader doing last saturday at 3PM?. buying decking from a gardening centre in Warrington dressed up as a chav grand dad in black tracksuit and prison white trainers. He hates Ashley but THINK about how your coming across Dave? I hope your not getting the old Mike Baldwins!.
Managed to get some tickets off Mr D Turpin , but well worth the price.
The boys have still got it , and because we went on the Saturday we had Oasis ( minus Noel ) thrown in. B)
Had the pleasure of seeing them on Friday.
Whilst musically not the best gig I’ve ever seen (hence my cheeky other post about them still being an album band), it was wonderful to finally see/hear them live and just dance with a lot of other very happy people for 1.5 hours.
I did also find myself shedding a tear at the end as the fireworks went off to Redemption Song.
I have to admit Galatic to being very biased and I was probably caught up in the emotion of the day but I did think musically they were excellent. The atmosphere was definitely something else , even around the pubs during the day , all crammed full and The Roses blasting away in every one. A day for the all time memory bank.
I’d say the one with the name spelling issues could be you Fillip ! :S As for drummers , yea I probably do have a problem with them. Over 75,000 at Heaton Park on Saturday and he was the only bugger with a seat.
Certainly a day to remember, but it did have a feeling of being on a set of shameless for most of the day. As I understand it the near riot that broke out at the Fosters tent on Friday, with staff being punched and booze stolen was something to behold.
They were far better than I remember them being live. Teh set did have a lull half way through, with even the most loyal fan finding it hard to get into Where Angels Play. Cracking finale anyway.
Doubt I would see them again, but an experience to have been there.
Oh, last not least, Indie chicks are Ugly and the place was full of them on Sunday.
