Stubbornness

Robbie has shown a Benetiz like stubbornness or blind faith in his pursuit of picture perfect football.The alarm bells were ringing for me early with the “no fluke” 8 and 9 goal humiliations and whimpering cup exits.A glance at the list of signings posted by Martinez=God tells its story.At the basement purchasing level we are at it is nigh on impossible to attain players of the calibre required to pull it off.Yes Swansea seem to be achieving this but i will wait till the 2nd season before i make judgement as they are fuelled by post championship adrenalin.Whichever way you want to analyze his tactics he has nearly always stuck with the 1 up top and it has been a major flaw in his Wigan career.Very few forwards can play that role and we certainly havent got one .Even on Saturday in such a season defining game he still persisted with it.Had Robbie been at any other Prem club he would have been dispatched long ago only his relationship with the chairman has maintained his stay.I stand to be corrected but are’nt we now nearly 100 prem games with back to back wins only once ,if so then I rest my case. I cannot recall any chairman ever making such a stupid statement as “I will never sack him” which now means he has to swallow humble pie if he were to do the deed,not something he has done in the past.What bothers me most is the division 1 squad he has left as his legacy .Then again most will have bailed out come August leaving any new manager with the unenviable task of rebuilding from scratch.No doubt Mr Whelan will have been in the media by then promising our new man or maybe still Robbie a parachute payment warchest.!!
