It really pains me to write this, as I am a loyal supporter of the Supporters Club, have been for many years, and recognise fully the hard work that the committee members put in.

    But I have to write.

I paid my fiver last week, picked up my card today at the South Stand bar but was told by the stewards on the door that my membership card was not valid – I needed a season ticket or match ticket to get in. Obviously I have these but I feel I have been seriously misled – by the Supporters Club (I hope not) or by the club.

Because when I queried what I had paid my fiver for with the SC members on duty, I was told it was so I could go on the coaches.

In other words – anyone (unless they have been to Pets R’us or whatever it’s called and randomly decide they need a pint) can get into the South Stand Bar. The only advantage of the membership card is to travel on coaches. I drove to the few away games I went to last season, and one of our group – a loyal season ticket holder – goes to no away games.

I have in front of me the folder my ST came in. It says, quite clearly: “Membership of the Supporters Club for the 2011/12 season is just £5 with benefits including entry to the official Supporters’ Bar in the South Stand on home matchdays, access to executive travel for away fixtures, special events and more….”

If I had known that my fee was to join the Travel Club, rather than entry to a bar that at least I knew people had paid for admission (after years in the refugee camp across the road) I might have thought twice. For me personally I probably would have still paid up, but there are others who wouldn’t. There were quite a few disgruntled people.

The Supporters Club membership card isn’t even, per se, a means of entry to the Bar. It’s not accepted!!!

It’s not the money – a fiver won’t bankrupt me – but the principle. Do we have a Supporters Club – or a Travel Club?

I stress once again the Committee do a sterling job, and this isn’t a criticism of them. But what is going on?

I also thought that you had to join the supporters club to be able to use the bar. I didn’t realise it was open to any season ticket or matchday ticket holder.
I feel misled, as I probably wouldn’t have joined the supporters club as I never use the travel club or go to any of the events.

Is anyone going to offer us an explanation as to why we have been misled in this way, or was it a one off today as everyone hadn’t got their membership cards?

It surprised me as well when I proffered my membership card, which we were told we had to have, only to be told it was season ticket or match ticket and that the membership card was only for away travel. How many people in there weren’t supporters club members? A lot, I’d guess.

I have also been “done” will never need to be a member. Thought it was needed for entrance to the bar before & after the game.

So lets be clear on this then

I can waltz into the supporters club bar without a membership just using my season ticket

            thanks for the info

Well there’s a shock, the hierarchy at the club using people to get to their own ends.
Last season (well since they moved in there) I was asked to show my membership card to get in and the vast majority of people in there were members as far as I could see. The final day against WHU was an excellent atmosphere AND THEY WERE DEFFO ALL MEMBERS.
As Garswood said, it even says on their season ticket stuff that the £5er includes entry.
From what I understand, the club asked the supporters club to move in there from the school hall across the way. If all this is right it means that they have used the WASC to get their members used to using the room and have then shafted them now they don’t need them.
I can’t see the only remnant of our great past from Springfield Park carrying on if they are just going to be a booking service FOR THE CLUB!!!!!!! I think it is disgusting for them to be treated this way (if this is the case).
I can feel a boycott coming on if OUR Supporters Club have been done over.

Nothing like flying off the handle is there?

Why not try establishing the facts first. It may be as simple as the blokes on the door getting the rules wrong. I’m sure someone from the Supporter’s Club will respond to this thread in due course.

Any official line on this yet?

We didn’t attend the South Stand on Saturday but we will be looking to use it on a regular basis this year.

We were made to sign up last season to gain entry. A match ticket/season ticket wasn’t necessary. It was late on in the season (probably only 3/4 home games left). It was made brutally clear that entrance would only be allowed to Supporters Club Members. So we signed up there and then. The rules must have been changed for this season. Well i hope they have, because the alternative is tantamount to theft.

I’m sure there is an innocent explaination but it needs addressing quickly.

On a positive note, sounds like I dont need to lash out a fiver for a membership card and I can drink in the supporters club :)

ive spoke too 1 of the comittee and its right you just need a season ticket /match ticket but on there website it says the membership gets you into the club on matchdays

                  Tut tut tut

am sure they have a good use for the £5 membership.

But misleading on the advert. They will be mobile phone hacking next.

We are obviously aware of the issues with the opening day in the South Stand Bar and we are loooking into it.

The Club have said that no instructions were given to the Doormen with regards to Supporters Club members ‘not’ being entitled to come in.

To the contrary ‘Supporters Club Members’ membership cards will be asked for for the QPR match this Saturday, remember that it is an early kick off. No explaination was given for whhy the doorman got their remit so very, very wrong but rest assured that Supporters Club members cards are a benefit of being a member.
