Folks, football friends, since I started watching Wigan about 9 years ago, a memorable sunny afternoon at the DW or JJB v Middlesborough and a 1 – 0 win with a Sibierski goal through until about 6 months ago I have had a ball and a blast.

I have so many wonderful memories to take with me, some fantastic laughs, met some of the nicest most fun people, hugged Gavin’s Mum, have a secret with Norma and had some great times at stunning games.

Of course I have regrets – not going to Everton, Arsenal or Man U and not being Crusty for a day.

My biggest disappointment, like us all, all the shite that is going on now.

To all you good people, for adding to my memories I say a huge thank you.

Why am I telling you all this …… I’ve retired and we are moving back to New Zealand where I want to buy a goat to milk, get chickens, plant olive trees and hopefully carry on enjoying myself but in a different way.

My greatest claims to fame include scoring in that same goal as Will Grigg, in ‘that’ game, on my 60th birthday for Goal Shoot.. Getting zero points in ‘Guess the Gate’, thanks Horc, having fun on ‘The Wall’ when I couldn’t get to the match, asking DW for his tie when Max wouldn’t give me his shorts after he’d given his shirt to someone else. I could go on for ages. So much good stuff.

I’m sorry to be moving away from this fun and I hope it returns sooner that later, you’ve been great.

I’ll still keep popping up on the forii to see what the ‘talk of the town is’ and if I come back I’ll try to gt up for a game.

The ES7 folks, around W187, to you all … thankyou again for adding so much to my afternoons. All of you.

Thank you everyone, keep safe and keep having fun. It’s been a great journey – mostly. :bye:  :good:

I remember walking behind you on a matchday over the Duggie Bridge, i didn’t have a clue who you was at the time (get it?) ;-) I heard you taliking to a bloke about football forums and who you knew, you also mentioned your forum usernames, i was glad i could put a face to a username.

Anyroad mate, enjoy your retirement and all the best, if you need someone to carry your bags give me a shout, always fancied New Zealand myself, because lets be honest sadly the once Great Britain is finished.

Good luck pal, take care and have a bloody great time, oh and keep in touch! :good:

This is fascinating!! and such a very nice thing to say. I’ll get such replies, as yours has just tingled me with a tad of emotion, and I wonder ….. who is he!? Like the guy who asked me about my ParkRun times. Annonimty can be fun sometimes, it stimulates the curiosity.

I want to reiterate and emphasise and give it all a bit of context.

Folks, You have all demonstrated perfectly why my Wigan experience has been so memorable. Your super kind comments are really, well, just that – super and kind.

The truth and ‘fess-up’ time is that in your own way you kinda saved me. I have ‘dark’ patches, there have been 2 particularly low times and Wigan was my therapy and counselling. For 3 hours on match day I could be totally absorbed in what was around me, I would be with you lot having fun and saying daft things, I could forget all the other shite and then when I was at home I could get lost on these forums. (some of you may remember I did a sponsored silence in aid of ‘CALM’ the charity for mens mental health).

                Thanks again. :good:

I have loved our encounters over the years, you really brighten up my day when we meet at random pubs on away days….. still think your daft as a brush cycling to some of the grounds you have.
Enjoy your new life, hopefully I’ll get over there one day myself and say hello

FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

Thanks Jason, The feeling is mutual. Pubs, railway platforms (was it Ormskirk), trains, even an airport – Zagreb, games – even QPR where you moved elsewhere at half time, but I didn’t take it personally, buses – from Northampton, supporters club. It’s been great to bump into you and have a laugh. Honestly, WAFC brought some of the best UK moments to my 13 years in the country – and you can have a lot of the credit for that.

To you and all my ‘Latics friends, I’m really hoping that 2021 is a good year for you all and your friends and families, with good health, safety and some fun. Oh, how I hope 2021 brings some better news to WAFC, to cheer us all up a bit.

                      Good for you!

I remember meeting you in Maribor in the good old days. Looks beautiful over there Richard and here’s wishing you all the best my friend. We will all keep in touch and hope you can still pop on now and again and put a smile on our faces.
