You would have thought from the reaction on here, that not only did we lose a cup match, but that we were also relegated last night. Just because we are a premiership team, doesn’t give us a god given right to beat Notts County, their have been several notable giant killers already in the cup, and I may be wrong but can’t remember a premiership club thrashing a lower division club so far in the tournament. The latics have taken quite a few notable scalps both during our non league and league days, give Notts County the praise they deserve over the two games and hope that david beats the goliath fulham as thats what adds the majic to the competition.

County to a man seemed more up for it, some people seem to think it’s all down to Bobby and his new signings, tactically he got it wrong
but it’s worth bearing in mind how some of the experience he left in the team performed. Bramble had a poor game positionally and far far too often launched a long ball nearly always to the opposition. In midfield the experienced Scharner and Koumas both looked clueless, Scharners passing was abysmal (for me he should be competing for the centre half position not midfield) whilst Koumas looked half interested, quite why people go on all the time about Scotland who is improving and at least puts the effort in,(he was given very little support last night again) whilst Koumas is still at the club amazes me. A good performance from Sinclair last night pity more didnt perform like him.

Yes the defence has been very leaky, but there again it was in the latter part of Bruce’s last season here. Bobby is making lots of mistakes but let’s hope he get’s it right, better him at the club than a failed manager coming for the money. If you are a true latics fan neither him or anybody in our shirt deserves booing. I’ts early days we aren’t bottom of the league and hopelessly adrift The man and team need our support.

I agree with what you say and strongly believe Notts deserve to be through to the 5th round. I think they’ll take a good following to Fulham and really give it a go but if we had got through we’d have taken around 200 to Fulham and maybe played a weakened side.

I think Scotland did OK, should have buried that chance in the 1st half and I believe that would have totally changed the outcome of the game. He had a good shot and good header saved well in the 2nd half.

Stojkovic had a good game, 1 stupid save in the 1st half which he could have easily caught but was tested on more than 1 occasion and made 2 or 3 good saves.

I thought Bramble, Scharner, Koumas and Gomez were absolutely awful, an absolute joke of a performance by those 4 and Bramble should never wear that captains armband again.

Boyce, Figueroa, Diame, Sinclair and Caldwell were all poor BUT Sinclair had a few decent runs and touches, Diame was the only player who looked like creating anything, Caldwell didn’t do much wrong individually but he was part of the defence that conceded 2 goals against league 2 opposition, Boyce and Figueroa were below usual standards.

As for Martinez, I will defend him to a certain extent because he rested McCarthy, Thomas, N’Zogbia and Rodallega due to the game we have at the weekend (far more important than the cup game for me). He obviously thought we could beat Notts without them as we all expected and gave an opportunity for the likes of Sinclair, Koumas, Gomez, Scotland, etc to prove their worth to the team but all failed to do anything in my eyes.

I am looking forward to Saturday as we have reacted well to poor results in the past and the 9-1 tonking at Spurs was followed by Sunderland now we have an embarrasing cup result followed by a game at Sunderland. I hope Moreno gets his work permit before Saturday and Moses starts as I believe we need 2 forwards to liven up the team and start scoring goals. You don’t win games unless you score goals and with Scotland in the team partnered by Hugo (who’s form of late has been awful) we aren’t looking good with our only threat being N’Zogbia.

We have had a good transfer window, much better than the teams around us and the likes of Sunderland so we must now concentrate on the league which is our main priority and ensure we move up the table and don’t look down. I am quietly confident we can win on Saturday and hopefully kick start our season with a bit of consistency.

        2-1 Wigan!

Good post that mon. A win on Saturday, a good team performance, and some new blood in the team, and last night will be forgotten.
