If Dave Whelan is this great business man who made himself a multi millionaire why can’t he realise by investing his money in the club and not letting the better players leave (all under contract) he would push us up the Premiership battling for a uefa cup spot and get all the fans excited about the games again. Wigan Athletic in the Premiership are a great investment, probably the lowest wage bill in the league, a new club with possibilities and a guaranteed £40m before league position, prize money, tv money, league placement money, advertisements and sponsorship, it would sell easily. If we are relegated, all that will change.
Rather than just dive in and accept whats on offer, if we had added a couple of quality signings to our team January last year and kept hold of who we had, we would have made the top six. We were right on course before Whelan ruined the team. If we had indeed finished sixth, would Bruce have walked out on a chairman who was backing him and a club in Europe?

There and now nine threads you’ve started on the first page of the board. Now, i’ve not read them all, but the couple i have read seem to be just the same thing repeated over and over. Change the record.

Its pretty obvious that you’ve got a problem with Whelan but this is fast becoming the ramblings of an obsessive.

Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion but your letting your hatred of all things Whelan cloud your judgement. Im probably wasting my time even bothering to reply to that post but for my own interest i will.

              1) “The Great Business Man” – you’re obviously being sarky, i might not like the man but he’s done far more than I, or dare i say you have ever done in a business sense.

              2) Wigan Athletic in the Premiership are a great investment – to who exactly?? Im not being funny but if you were to rank the 20 Premier League teams in order of preference for a takeover I think we’d be at the bottom of the list. If big clubs like Everton cant attract investment what sort of chance have we got??

              3) A guaranteed £40m income? – you do realise that this income which is then spent on running the club?? The vast majority (89% last year) goes on paying the wages and then remainder goes towards transfers, agents fees, training ground, admin salaries etc. You dont seriously think DW banks a check for £40m every August do you and thinks, “there we go, another £40m for me”.

              4) If we’d kept the team together we would have made the top 6 – seriously that is absolute fantasy land, not a chance. Exactly who of Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Everton & Villa would we have finished above??? We were at best a higher mid table side last year, the fact we had a good run immediately pre January somehow convinced people we were European contenders

As for all the other posts, its just more of the same. The only thing thats a “laughing stock” about the club are the hysterical posters on here who react to things as though the world has ended. Im just glad we didnt have the internet when i was watching Kenny Swain’s team, the place would have gone off the scale.

Rant over, its made me feel better anyway!!

So you think we couldnt have managed 7 more points and qualified for Europe with the players we let go? You mention £40m being spent on wages and then remainder goes towards transfers, agents fees, training ground and admin salaries. So what does advertising, attendancies, sponsorship, Catering, Thugby rent, kit and memorobilia sales, etc get spent on How about weddings and events at stadium, what does that get spent on? When were shown on tv, what does the £1/4m get spent on? When we finish 11th and get £5m prize money, what does that get spent on? When you reach the Carling cup final, what does the £4m get spent on? When you sell three players for £40m, what does that get spent on? Yes, were so lucky to have Dave, dont know what we would do bout him.

Great post, people forget about all that, blinkers are still working for some, and for someone not interested investing, dont be silly, I remember a certain gage investing and we had nothing, people forget that or dont even know about that.

I know all about when Gage came on board,he was an accountant using his professional expertise to help us.How that proves that someone with the millions you’re wanting would invest in us I’m not sure.

Anyway this is as much use as banging my head against a brick wall.Of course your right,Whelan is making a massive profit out of us and is quite happy to see all our transfer fees into his bank account.I guess you lot have never heard of the going concern test that’s going to be brought in soon.

Never let facts get in the way of a good story though eh?

You can’t force a sport on a town that mainly doesn’t want it. The town has spoken, Dave knows this.

What does the gate money, shirt sales etc etc blah blah blah.

It is part of the clubs turnover. You know, the turnover of which 89% is spent on wages

Trouble is i dont think the town wants thugby either, 11,000 season tickets sold aint good, and couldnt sell there semi final tickets speaks volumes, and even whelan dumped the thugby and gave latics the ground, so ill say it again its about time the people of wigan started supporting there town instead of jumping up and down in a pub watching other teams, i wouldnt say supporting because there not really doing that in a pub, sad but true.

Who mentioned rugby? I didn’t. Loads of things are wrong at the latics as we all know. Another sport is not one of them.

I might be wrong here, and I fully expect one of Whelans little lovers to correct me, but the above figure of 89% of turnover was for last season.
The wage bill must have been vastly reduced now with the sale or release of so many big name players.*
We have also made a profit approaching £30M in transfers this season alone, so I’m sure there must be a few coppers left in the bottom of Daves war chest.

*Palacios, Heskey,Mido, Zaki, Valencia, Cattermole, Sibierski, Camara, Taylor, Brown.
Even all the Whelan lovers must admit the wages of the above players must easily be more than their replacements.
How much less are we paying in wages to Bobby and his backroom staff as opposed to Bruce and his team.

I don’t particularly dislike Dave, and fully appreciate what he has done over the years, but I am starting to lose patience with him and am worried as to his future intentions toward us.
