19 April 2012 at 2:09 pm #85567Try and stay away from the negative past (it really did happen!!)and look to the future .Fantastic series of performances and credit to Robbie and all the players .The question I pose is being that the playing staff is the same and the formation has been tweeked then why the sudden huge improvement ?Is it that the players feel more comfortable with this system ? or did the relegation threat suddenly wake them up ?
In my opinion Brownbill, there were rumblings of improvement before Christmas.
For me, Beasejour instead of Jones has been a major factor – which has allowed the back three to concentrate on being three centre halves – and not having to bail their ‘wing back’ out on a regular basis. Boyce on the right, although not as good going forwards as Stam, leaves fewer holes in defence. All in all the back three/five look solid and have improved 200%.
I think the two Jimmy Macs have put a bit of bite into the midfield that perhaps wasn’t there with Diame – despite his obvious skill and ability; and, of late Maloney has proven to be Gomez with urgency.
Once they’d started to gain momentum, confidence has improved and it’s just snow-balled from there.
That’s my take on it.

Spot on i’d say Standish. Just to add, that bit of luck has started to come our way as well but completely deserved from the way we are playing.
19 April 2012 at 2:31 pm #85576Apart from the actual change to the three centre backs system one of the biggest factors in our improved performances is that for quite a while now we’ve had a settled defence.
At the beginning of the season we had numerous injuries and suspensions and it seemed like we never had the same defence for two weeks running.
Lets hope the defensive six can see the season out.
