The intake of breath was audible
Had Martinez turned Villa down?
He’d rejected our ‘Second City’
To stay in a small Northern town
Where the people don’t turn out in numbers
And there’s always seats to spare
They don’t even like football in Wigan
They’re all into rugby up thereBut didn’t he realise his error?
Villa are giants who sleep
Each season they’ll challenge for Europe
And buy players who they can keep
So Martinez should jump at the chance
To manage a club just like them
It really is such an honour
That may not come round againOur Chairman appeared on the telly
He said: ‘Roberto’s decided to stay
I said he could go, but he just told me: “No
I like it here anyway”
He’s adopted the town of Wigan
And he is such a loyal fella
He’s just bought a house in Poolstock
And his favourite food is pie-ella’So ladies and gents of the Latics
Let’s greet the world with broad smiles
Surely all this and the last two games
Will bring ‘em through the turnstiles
And if this saga was merely a rouse
Who cares, and how broad is my grin?
Season ticket sales are up fifty percent

Thanks, Dave Whelan, The Master Of SpinVery good that standish.
In honour of the spanish fella those words of your poem make an excellent alternetive libretto to Habanera from the opera Carmen, you may need to rework them slightly to make them fit better before we go to production.

I’ve seen Bizet’s grave in Paris. Does that mean I am now cultured?
