Well done Filmoss, I don’t get many replies so you’re doing well. On this meal anal ogy thing, I paid £28 to feast at the Everton game and came out starving whereas the fat lads last night only paid £14 for a snack and came out busting, they still only managed 12400 diners. Waiter, waiter there’s some shoite on our table !

Its no wonder they only get 12-14,000 on if they’re charged that much. I thought it would be a tenner at the most to watch a RL match.
I’d like to see their attendances if they had to pay £30 a game.15 February 2010 at 12:10 pm #22737Unfortunately at this restaurant, a large proportion of the clientele expect Michelin Star standards from the new, inexperienced chef, and tend to boo and barrack him through the serving hatch between courses, and at the end of meals.
Chef brought a couple of his tried and tested signature dishes with him, which, it’s fair to say, have been met with a mostly unfavourable responses from the regulars, and his attempts to move to a more continental menu have been received quite badly by the predominantly meat-and-two-veg customers.
The restaurant owner bought the business when it was originally based out of a burger-van, but some of the regular customers have criticised him for not investing further in the business, and his failure to bring in elite staff from the upmarket eateries. His preference to avoid risk and keep the restaurant financially stable has meant the doors have always been open for the regulars, despite their protests that by now they should be seeing a French Maitre D, juggling barmen and tappanyaki.
It is becoming the opinion of those who enjoy the restaurant, even if the food can be hit and miss sometimes, that some of the regulars would be better advised not to bother booking their tables for next week, and f00k off and starve, metaphorically speaking, obviously.
Now that’s what you call an analogy Fil ! [/quote]
Thanks Owd Git. I did hope it would provide food for thought.
15 February 2010 at 12:11 pm #22738I’m intrigued at the thought that someone has a season ticket or a subscription to a single restaurant.
15 February 2010 at 12:15 pm #22739Perhaps a school dinner based analogy might have been more apt for this forum.

I wasn’t criticizing mate, I quite enjoyed the post actually.
That said – and I don’t have a dictionary to hand – is a similarity in some respects between things that are dissimilar the correct definition of analogy ;)

It was last time I looked !! ;)
15 February 2010 at 1:31 pm #22746Cant put me finger on it exactly but lately at this establishment I have come away with the bombay trotts, headaches, fever and sickness – give it a couple of days and I seem to have recovered.
Then bugger me I go back again – must be the memories of having good times and fayre in the past or am I just loyal to the establishment no matter which chef is employed15 February 2010 at 1:39 pm #22749Well my luncheon vouchers have just arrived for St Andrews Restaurant on 27th I wonder what the bill of fare will be like on arrival ? At least I am willing to travel in the quest to satisfy my appetite !
15 February 2010 at 1:40 pm #22750It was last time I looked !! ;)Ah, I see where you got it from – it’s the second search returned on google. You missed out the word “otherwise”, though. It looks a better definition if you include otherwise, imo.
That’s just me being pedantic though, I suppose

I always find it better to quote the actual definition rather than my own interpretation of it despite already knowing what it actually means ! And I didnt get it from where you did, there is no “otherwise” so your pedantry fell on deaf ears I’m afraid so to speak !

Don’t mean to interject unnecessarily but I notice that various forms of the word pedant are being bandied about. Is the word being used euphemistically for less acceptable expressions? ;)
16 February 2010 at 1:19 am #22809Well Griff sarcastically or not admitted to being a pedant and I merely told him his pedantry was misplaced on me ! Perhaps you my old friend are being a little too analytical ! But I can see what your attempting and to be quite frank with you it wont wash with me !! Go and try to pull someone else up on their grammar ! My earlier post obviously had no bearing on you whatsoever !
