There’s a few threads that keep harping back to the past and how much better it was then.
Do you nostalgia mob really think that you can recover that feeling? Like some people have said, you have moved on so even if we are back in the 4th tier of the league or the equivalent of the Northern Premier League, do you think it will be the same?
Part of the joy of it all was the climbing through the leagues and the pleasure that winning gives. We have now reached a level that each step forward takes much more effort – its the old 80-20 rule, it takes 20% of the time to do 80% of the job and 80% of the time to do the next 20%.
What you appear to be suggesting is that we seek relegation to lower league and then we give up all ambition to become any better. What’s the point?
The clubs aim will be to finish in the play off’s but make sure we don’t win because god forbid we should ever be promoted again. Do you really beleive that you will enjoy that?
If we get relegated then the ambition next year will be to get re-promoted, if we fail, then we try again the next year and so on. But give up on that ambition and you might as well give up playing (as a team) or supporting because “whats the point?”
We are where we are, you can’t go back in time and we have to continue to strive to climb up the league. Realistically we ain’t going to be chamions of Europe, not during my lifetime anyway. But try we must – even if it’s not as exiting as the climbing up the leagues was 10 years ago.22 November 2010 at 5:00 pm #51449i would swap another year in the relagation zone with 30 miserbale games and scraping just enough points to survive another year of the same with going down and having a right good season in the Championship to come up again (maybe) and so I suspect would many others.
22 November 2010 at 5:43 pm #51450I don’t disagree with that. What I am trying to say is; if your desire is to recapture the feeling of being in the lower leagues when life was simpler then you are saying you don’t want to play at the top level again. That means you want to get relegated and don’t want to get promoted again.
If we end up relegated (and i’m not saying that will be the end orf the world), then provided we are trying and keep trying, then we still have ambition and there is a point to it all.23 November 2010 at 1:37 am #51475The Past has gone

23 November 2010 at 9:51 pm #51541I remember watching Aspull a while back thinking, the standard of football was crap, it was much better when I was playing in the ammy league against teams like Wigan Youth, Bethel, Ince Parish etc. Then again, was it really?
Your faded memories always seem to pick out the best bits, and even the shyte times don’t seem that bad. In fact I boast about the time I went watching the tics against Newport county on a Tuesday night with 20 odd others on a coach. Crap game, crap journey, got back at 2am and was on 6-2, but hey them were the good times.
I’ve done the lot watching tics, but whether its an age thing or not, go back to them days WIF!! :o
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!23 November 2010 at 10:17 pm #51547Yer reet fatfan, the Wigan ammy league aint a patch on what it was 20 years ago when i played!
(Wigan Youth?……You were probably my teammate!) :x
