I thought I’d do a little bit of research today… here is what I was told
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
1 March 2010 at 1:27 am #24799Interesting.
Wonder why all those who seem to come on here with the old “i was speaking to the groundsman the other day and he said…………”, have never bothered to mention 95% of the info you’ve got there.
1 March 2010 at 1:28 am #24800A balanced and interesting read. Think you’re right about some fans not being happy to hear it’s nothing to do with the rugby though.
1 March 2010 at 1:41 am #24804Interesting read that Jay but you do have to wonder about the wisdom of building on that land in the first place, especially if you aren’t going to remove the tanks that seem to be the main problem. Surely the cost of relaying the pitch every year, which seems to be happening, far outweighs the cost of sorting out the tank issue once and for all.
1 March 2010 at 2:42 am #24809Thas been told a pack of lies!
Lovely piece of English Pasture the actual site of the pitch.Sewage Tank System was 300yds away look at the photo! Its them Eggchasers ruining the pitch
1 March 2010 at 3:24 am #24813In honest i think you could be right there Wigmon i remember the old house and where the sewage tanks was but no matter what there will be a clever tusk who thinks he know it all. and put us straight but end the day no pitch will take 2 teams lets not kid our selves.

1 March 2010 at 11:36 am #24825A good read and an interesting debate until it was hijacked by two more burks thinking they’re funny. ;) No wonder this forum struggles to get the respect it craves.
One answer you didn’t seem to get JayT was what exactly is involved – logistically and financially – in solving the underlying issues rather than annually relaying the pitch?
Even if an annual relay seems a relatively easy and cheap thing to do – in the grand scheme of things – presumably we would have to suffer 4 or 5 games of pitch-related dross each season before it is deemed bad enough to dig up?
I like the idea of the filtration system. It’s a pity that such a short-sighted decision was taken to veto this seemingly essential element. Especially as those involved must have known the problems that could have been caused by the local geography down the line.
1 March 2010 at 11:54 am #24827Interesting butcould be a major financial problem if we fall into the lower divisions.
1 March 2010 at 1:31 pm #24842what happens to the old turf?
I could do will a few rolls for the allotment
2 March 2010 at 11:55 am #25011reading the second article that’s appeared on the front page about the pitch & hearing it mention subsidence reminds me of a conversation I had in what must have been 1990ish with a friends dad who also happened to be a cabinet member of Wigan council & a Bolton fan
It was after a game at Springfield Park against Bolton & in the car on the way back I had to listen to em moan (again) about the poor state of Springfield park & in the away end in particular. From memory I think Bill Kenyon had looked into going to Robin park & claimed he received zilch assistance from the council & it was a non-starter.
Anyway to cut a long story a bit shorter I had a bit of a go back at my mate’s dad about the alleged lack of assistance from the council about a move to Robin Park. His reply was that the council & Latics had looked at the option several times & come to the conclusion that it wasn’t viable because the ground in the area wasn’t & never would be suitable for the weight of stands & other facilities needed for a professional sporting ground. I think his last words on it were “It’ll just sink” – as his main job was a surveyor of some sort I assumed he knew what he was on about & left it at that
When they started to build our new ground I assumed he’d been talking out of his ‘arris but reading that maybe not2 March 2010 at 12:03 pm #25012It does beggar belief, as I said in my earlier post, that better measures weren’t taken (in fact some were actually vetoed) to ensure the stadium/pitch could cope with its poor environment.
