With Moses, N’Zogbia, McArthur, McArthy, Rodallega and Di Santo, I think we’ve got talent to spare in the final third. The problem is the back four. Only Boycey is any good, with the jury still out on Alcataz and Lopez. Figoera, Stam, Gouhouri and especially the Caldwells simply aren’t good enough. We need a stable back four but have hardly played the same four players twice. Where’s Titus when we need him? The best signing Whelan could have made this transfer window was Arry or Matt Jackson as defensive coach.
2 February 2011 at 3:00 am #57875The fact that we are the lowest scorers in nearly all the leagues makes me think the problem is at the front , not the back.

But when your main striker has two clear cut chances to put you two goals in front and kill off the opposition, not even hitting the target in the process, what do you expect?
2 February 2011 at 3:17 am #57890last season it was melchiot – scharner – kirkland – gomez – scotland – kapo & de ridder(even though they didnt play) it was even bruce’s fault – those were the arguments on here, now this season it is defence – midfield – attack – caldwell bros – watson – thomas depending on whatever stance anyone takes
when is everybody going to wake up and smell the coffee and realise that the tic-tac man with the brown shoes stood on the touch line is the reason we are in the last throws of our premiership tenure – and whatsmore seemingly giving up without any fight and seeing a club that has spent its whole exsistance battling for recognition giving up with barely a whimper that is a disgrace.

2 February 2011 at 12:59 pm #57922Must agree back 4 not the best, but 1 of our midfielders should be told to sit in front of them at all times to prevent balls like the 1st goal getting through so easily, I thought that was the idea of having 3 central midfielders? All the top teams have a midfielder that protects the back 4. Look at Claude Makelalie (spelt wrong) when at Chelsea he never moved from in front of defence. I would put Macarthur there personaly as I dont think Thomas or Diame can do it disiplined enough and I dont rate either of them.

and, in respect of the defence – it was quoted during the commentary that prior to last night’s game only man united had conceded fewer away goals than wigan this season so it can’t be all that bad

Er maybe so but not really that type of player is he?[/quote]Er, definitely was. My point being that you said we should have had someone doing that job and we did.
Agree, though, that he isn’t best suited to it. ;)
2 February 2011 at 7:14 pm #58003Yes Griff I know he was, my origanal point was that it cant just be blamed on the back 4 every time the other team score. Got to get the right player in front of them.
