28-30 quid, just for the sake of tryin to get a few more in would it not be a good idea to keep it to 20 quid, christ, the way we are playing, and liverpool its hardly likely to be free flowing end to end football is it? this price catagory didnt really do that well for the everton game did it?

23 February 2010 at 11:43 pm #24086I think that £30 is a big mistake by the club and £20 would have been more than enough with money being tight and failing to get anywhere near filling the ground against other top teams, a promotion of £10 or £15 would have done a better job of attracting new supporters and stay aways, as mentioned in an earlier thread.
24 February 2010 at 12:18 am #24092Rather than trying to cash in on certain games we should have season long offers for season ticket holders and incentives for those who commit to more than a single game.
In difficult financial times we’ve done much right this season, but still seem too reliant on initial season ticket sales, with little effort to build support throughout the season.

24 February 2010 at 1:13 am #24122I’m all for trying to get more people in but….”incentives for those who commit to more than a single game”, what’s all that about, come to 2 games and get 3 free??? We play 19 home games a season, our season isnt just about when Utd/Liverpool/Arsenal come to town.
Our ST prices are low enough, if you can be 99% certain of getting to at least 15 home games, there’s no excuse for not paying less than £20 a game.

Is anybody going to pay £30 a game at the moment though ?

Last season, during the season run in, Blackburn were offering something like 3 games for £30. As a result they packed out Ewood Park, stayed up, and have retained much of that support this season.
At Latics the options appear to be, pay upfront for a £250 season ticket, or expect to pay upto £30 per game.
We don’t have 20k potential season ticket holders to take up such a great offer, but we do have a great many potential fans who wish to come to a game or two, or take their kids along.
Up and down the country clubs are creative with their ticket pricing and offers, yet the one club that desperately needs such things, Latics, stick to a ridgid ‘take it or leave it’ approach.
If a dad wanted to take his son along to the Liverpool game he’d be charged anything upto £50, that’s if the ticket office would sell him a ticket in the first place.
Such pricing may have been justified if the game was a potential sell-out, yet I bet there isn’t 20k on, with thousands watching at home or in the pub.
Blackburn and Fulham have turned around similar situations, it’s time Latics did too.
24 February 2010 at 11:43 am #24135Is anybody going to pay £30 a game at the moment though ?Certainly not for a game that’s live on TV and on a Monday night, no.
In the club’s defence, perhaps they are anticipating a whole raft of Wigan-based Liverpool fans taking up seats in the home stands.
24 February 2010 at 11:57 am #24137Cant understand the way whelan does the ticket pricing, Ok the season tickets are rock bottom but as every one knows we never fill the ground no matter who plays at the d.w.
Should be doing prices for liverpool and other big games game £15 for an adult or £20 for adult and a kid or even lower because more fans in ground equals more programmes, ale, pies etc being sold plus hopefully keep hold of fans young and old for years to come.
By the way not knocking whelan because we would not even have a club to watch if not for him, Just think needs to do more to get fans through the gate.
24 February 2010 at 1:23 pm #24144Wigan-based Liverpool fans won’t be allowed to buy tickets, they won’t be on the database and it is a recipe for trouble when these local teams fans come in our end, I’m normally fairly calm but it wound me up when the Everton fans in the West stand were taking the urine when they scored.
If enough Wiganers could be persuaded to attend, there wouldn’t be tickets available for other clubs fans.24 February 2010 at 1:27 pm #24145Wigan-based Liverpool fans won’t be allowed to buy tickets, they won’t be on the database and it is a recipe for trouble when these local teams fans come in our end,It’s happened every time we’ve played them so far, no reason to expect it not to happen again. I’m sure it’s quite easy for some Liverpool fans (admittedly not thousands) to get tickets in the home end if they want to.
If enough Wiganers could be persuaded to attend, there wouldn’t be tickets available for other clubs fans. We’re back to the free ticket argument :)
24 February 2010 at 1:36 pm #24147They had something at Mansfield the other week, fans had to give donations but got in free (i think), don’t know how much success they had with it, got them some free publicity on the TV though.
If I was able to set ticket prices for this one game as a trial, I’d try adults £9, kids £2. They’ll never know unless they try it. At £30 a ticket I think there will be less than 17500 on.
