Do anyone else get this free paper delivered (I suppose the question is really, do you live in Standish)? If you do, have a look at the latest issue.
I seems as though the sport of Association Football is not played in the Standish or broader Wigan area. The main sports headline is about Radlinski’s new role at the Warriors. Then there are pieces on a charity do attended by several ex-Wigan RL players, reports on the recent St Pats, Shevy Sharks, St Judes, Rose Bridge, Wigan RU, Orrell RU, and Aspull RU games. There’s a junior RL section, a piece about Wigan athletics, one about table tennis, and photos of the local swimmers and Wigan Sailing club.
Not a single line, or merest of mentions of football – and that includes the professional and amateur leagues.
If you thought there was a bias in the local media, then this is the most concrete evidence yet. This publication does usually only provide the SW household with above average hamster bedding, but surely there are more people interested in reading about local amateur football teams that seeing photos of Wigan Sailing Club (A sailing club? It’s Scotsman’s Flash for Christ’s sake. Is the Sydney to Hobart going to be renamed the Poolstock to Ince Moss?).
P for poor.

These local papers are desperate for contributions and, like Cockney Latic, are only too willing to print articles by enthusiastic amateurs.
Perhaps followers of the sports you mention spend their time being constructive and trying to “spread the word”. I know that Wigan Sailing Club is run by people who selflessly give their time, free of charge, to help many people in Wigan who are less fortunate than themselves.
Please engage brain in future before you make such stupid comments. If you spent a little less time moaning and a little more contributing to your local community, you might even find the time to write them yourself !!
11 December 2009 at 12:33 pm #15049Oops, touched a nerve there, SW.
You should have picked on the local swimmers instead. ;)

I’ll take that as a positive; Cockney Latic like most voluntarily run sites need “enthusiastic amateurs” to write articles for it….. I wish there were a lot more than what there are right now.
Everyone has an opinion and a point to get across, some write them on message boards, some go the extra mile and actually type an article to be published – most just browse and read them, but don’t get involved even though in their own heads they are doing somersaults slating or backing what they have read, but they still sit back and won’t write owt themselves.
Opinions, as a long time reader and contributer on here said, are exactly that, Opinions – they are not right, they are certainly not wrong.
Carry on….
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
11 December 2009 at 1:20 pm #15057Fair enough Owd Git. I will consider my knuckles well and truly rapped.
Even if I had the time to contribute to such publications, I would not even considering doing so, as I’d just open myself up to criticism from people like me.
