Both for the manager and players of England the match tonight was a different kettle of fish than the previous matches.
The step up from a pretty kind group and route to the semi unfortunately delivered us ‘normal service resumed’.
Two shots on target in 120 minutes plus, left us just not up to the mark. We were out done in the second half by a fantastic performance of high pressing attacking football and were lost. Sadly after the first half of wasted chances we were outplayed and outclassed by a side that looked hungrier and fitter.
We can now concentrate on more important matters and thats staying in The Championship. Hopefully The Champioship will not prove a different kettle of fish for us after a relatively easy run to promotion last season.
We havnt strengthened the squad yet but maybe when the takeover saga(which seems to be running on longer than War and Peace or Corrie) we will.
Or do we need to strengthen?
The Championship is a huge step up so what can we expect from the team? Will we be like England and slipping midfielders into defence to try and keep with games or carry on like last season.

7 months later it’s all gone quiet and Whelan still has his name on the kit, still no money for strengthening and pepole swallowing the “we haven’t any money so have to rely on frees and loans” crap again. Even talk of it has all but vanished now as well.
I do wonder if it will ever happen. And anyway, if the so called new owners take so long at purchasing the club, is that a good sign? Other club sales haven’t been as prolonged, sorry, but I smell a rat here.

The big challenge for the England setup is moving those from the 21s and 19s into the full squad. Top clubs won’t suddenly start playing young lads so they’ll end up lost in the game somewhere and being loaned to clubs like us.
As for us, we need to sign some Championship quality/experienced players.

We do, but 36 year old Hoolahan doesn’t excite me. He’s almost as old as me. But of course, he’s available for nothing. Typical of us, doing it on the cheap.
