Call me a grumpy old man at 49 but I have started to get annoyed at people for saying things wrong ie ” Sex In The City ” !!! FFS its ” Sex And The City ” !! No I don’t watch it but I fcukin know what its called !! The people who say it wrong are the ones who watch it for God’s sake ! Another one that gets my goat is people who call Matalan Mataland !!! I am sick of telling people there is no D in Matalan !!
Anyone else wanting to vent their corrective spleen feel free to share your annoyances !!

I pulled my daughter up for that the other day on Face Book ! The funny thing is she had just corrected someone else for bad grammar so I couldn’t resist !!
This post should have been added with Garswood’s quote !!

PS I was tempted to put should of !!!

We have a girl at work who insists that we produce “client pacific” reports. It’s SPECIFIC, you thick bint!

A lot of this is a result of text and facebook speak. For example using “ov” instead of “have” and “are” instead of “our”.

On the subject of the things people say wrong (or should that be wrongly) the best and most funny was Jade Goody complaining that she was an escape goat!

I’ll give you the “ov” but I’m not having that “are” and “our” our a result of text-speak. It doesn’t even shorten it; it’s just plainly uneducated.

Doing something “off your own back” – it’s “off your own bat”

And my granny (where would we be without them) always used to say “making mountains out of mole holes”

… and don’t get me started on the complete disappearance of adverbs: he runs too slow, you must buy it quick, she talked loud.

Verbs require adverbs to describe them: slowly, quickly, loudly.

Just beware! I take this real serious.

                Er… seriously.

When people read out the date and say the year is two thousand eleven. In America it is but here it two thousand AND eleven.

Petty I know, but it makes me cringe.

And also, just noticed that this Wigan message board uses the word favorite and not favourite!!!

Yes it is but I see it being used more and more frequently, maybe not as text-speak but certainly facebook-speak, between kids of a certain age and, dare I say, IQ level.

Oh, and for all those who sing the song, it actually goes:-
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.
You make me happy when skies are grey.
You’ll never KNOW, DEAR, (and not NOTICE)

                    So there!

My Gran was quite the opposite and used to correct us all the time !! Explaining to her that I had a hole in my sock I once said ” I’ve got anole in my sock ” She replied ” What’s a nole ” !!

Also as November 5th is almost upon us, how annoying is it when someone says bomfire or bommy !! keeping on a fire note, does anyone still say Chimley instead of chimney ?

That had pi$$ed me off years. So typical of thick Wigan fans that they can’t even get the words to their own song correctly.
