Looking good for us, he’s very well thought of, and the infographics make good reading.
For those who say he has no Championship experience I think I would rather have someone who has had success (a lot of it) at any level and a track record of developing young players (which after all is the business we are currently in, like it or not) than someone who has Championship experience, but that experience is of being regularly sacked.

3 November 2016 at 12:18 pm #152075Spot on, couldn’t have put it better my self. Read several United Facebook forums and not a single negative comment.

I can’t say that it’s an appointment that is getting me excited or upset to be honest – it’s much of a “blergh” feeling
He is undoubtedly a very highly regarded coach who has achieved a lot in that role at United. However there is a world of difference between coaching some of the best U23’s in Europe that you’ve been spoon fed by others to managing an entire football club and appointing your underlings, appointing your scouting network & identifying the players you want to bring in (& release) and much more.
Time will tell if he can make that step up but many haven’t been able to, though many have as well – I hope he’s the latter but for me it’s way too early to say whether you think he will or he won’t be a success.
What the appointment is though, is a big big risk3 November 2016 at 5:21 pm #152089Just have to give the bloke a chance. If anything, it may get us a couple of decent loan signings from yoonited, then fair do’s

More experience than Cadlwell upon his appointment though.I suspect Graham Barrow may again step up in an advisor role – and that should get the ‘Barrow is the problem’ movement lighting their torches and gethering their pitchforks yet again.
3 November 2016 at 6:39 pm #152093Could bring a team of coaches etc in from Utd yet who knows.
Whatever happens with Graham Barrow, let us hope it is something done with respect if he doesn’t fit in with the new bosses plans.3 November 2016 at 7:59 pm #152095I have a really positive & confident feeling about this guy.

Whatever happens with Graham Barrow, let us hope it is something done with respect if he doesn’t fit in with the new bosses plans. When we were in the PL and had players that had won European trophies, PL trophies and played for high ranking foreign teams and National sides I could understand a few people on hear having a go at Graham Barrow. Afterall, he had only coached and managed low ranking teams and some fans must have thought at times, ‘how the hell can this mon coach players who have done what some of these players have done’?
I never heard of any decent, and most players must have been respectful of the guys experience if not his achievements in the game.
One thing is for sure, he is Latics through and through and would probably die for this football club, so whatever happens in the future I will support him, thank him and always respect him as the Latics legend he has become.
Well done Graham, keep up the good work, and hopefully that will be at Wigan for some time yet.3 November 2016 at 11:52 pm #152111I’m going to stick up for Barrow here.
There are good coaches, and good managers. Look at Eric Black when he was with us. Great coach – never made it really as a manager. To be honest Kenny Swain was the same.
Maybe – just maybe, and I really don’t know, but posit this suggestion – Barrow is a great analyst. Maybe he is on the side lines saying “look, boss, their left back has too much space”, or “they’ve changed formation” or “the number 15 has dropped back a fraction”. Maybe he is a great observer of those things. It’s then up to the manager to decide what to do with that, but it would be really useful to have someone alongside you who could at least point out the problems. Better still to have someone who also could provide solutions, but at the end of the day that’s the manager’s job, and if the assistant can do that then they should be manager.
I think a lot of work Barrow does is unseen, but vital. It’s easy to say he is the common link. But that is more than likely irrelevant. He clearly has a role that successive managers of differing styles have accepted.
4 November 2016 at 12:36 am #152114Four managers since RM have come and gone none of them had a number 2 just GB. I don’t want to see him leave but there has to be a reason for this. There is surely a role for the guy whilst also allowing the manager to have his prefered right hand man.
4 November 2016 at 7:10 am #152119It could be seen as a good appointment but it could be seen as a risk.
Personally, I wouldn’t have let Gary go so early and would have replaced him with someone with Championship experience even if they have been sacked a few times. Most Managers have been sacked even Jose who is considered one of the best. This is a tough tough league and we need someone who knows it inside out to get the best players in to do the jobs we need.
Then again, Joyce clearly has ability as a Manager even if he did have a good set of players at his disposal and if he can bring in a few Utd youngsters and get the best out of Powell then we’ll be OK.
4 November 2016 at 11:55 am #152121A tough one and an hard decision to make for Mr Sharpe. Imagine actually being in his shoes and having to make those decisions with ten thousand or so others watching every move.
It’s done now Egg so let us all hope it is the right decision.
I recall him as a player and he didn’t take any prisoners. Heart on sleeve battler. At this moment in time and with his winning mentality I would expect something a lot different than what we have seen of late.
He my link up very well with Graham Barrow because they will both be very much aware of each other.
Remember Warren Joyce may have moved to us from Man Utd but his feet should be firmly on the ground from his football background. This fella won’t be no Billy Big Bollocks and we should hope he will not find that kind of player acceptable for us.
The more I look at this the better Sharpies hard thought out decision seems.4 November 2016 at 2:34 pm #152125A tough one and an hard decision to make for Mr Sharpe. Imagine actually being in his shoes and having to make those decisions with ten thousand or so others watching every move.
