Anyone seen this: http://transferleague.co.uk
Not a badly run business are we when you look! Where has the 50 million plus gone every year since we have been in the Premier League? If 20 players were on 20-30k a week we should still have a few quid left.

Yes, it seems that Big Dave has made a tidy £475k profit, over the years.
And he probably would have gotten away with it if it wasn’t for those pesky kids wanting wages to play for us. That might explain where a small chunk of the “£50m” has gone since 1992.

well if you look at it that is roughly £30 million on wages, then theres policing, stewards running cost of stadium other wages i.e admin staff, managerand coaching staff etc
We dont actually fill the stadium do we and our merchandise wont be that much.7 January 2010 at 12:49 am #17378You could pick a hole a mile wide in the factual information supplied by that web site!
7 January 2010 at 3:03 am #17399We can’t have it all ways. On most sites they slag us off as ‘big spending’ Wigan, buying their way to the PL etc etc.
The Author of this site has no axe to grind regarding Latics, which is unusual, but a welcomed change.
Why should he lie, as he said he has added all the figures available, and it has shown us as a well run business, we should be happy.
But no, people don’t want to believe this either as it might reignite the ‘Whelan is a tight ar*e’ brigade.
C’mon lads decide which side of the fence you are on and stick to it.
The figures clearly show that perhaps Mr Whelan could afford to spend a bit, as up to now he has made a handsome profit out of WAFC.
Yes running costs will account for most or maybe all of the Sky money we receive, and yes our attendance money will not generate silly money to spend, but if nothing else it proves we are solvent, and that money could be spent, as it will always be recouped further down the line.
C’mon Dave, the ‘warchest’ can now be opened.7 January 2010 at 3:17 am #17400If you actually click on “Wigan” to get the details you will also see a significant number of our transfers are recorded as “signed” – in other words the amount paid or received is not known.
In other words the statistics are 100% completely useless.

The undisclosed fees situation is clearly explained in the opening paragraph.
It is also quite clearly stated that in no way could anything be 100% exact.
It is only a guide, but I bet it’s nearer to the mark than anything anyone on here has ever posted, whether they are Whelan lovers or Whelan haters.8 January 2010 at 12:41 am #17502There cant be much in it,Celtic wanted cash up front for Scott McDonald.Bobby replied were not in a position to do that

8 January 2010 at 1:36 am #17515If you look at the other stats page – there one from 05-09 is interesting. He spent loads getting us to the Prem but has since stopped. Raking it in now he is.

Made do this time with self inflicted uppercuts, and beating my laptop with a birch branch ala Basil Fawlty.
