Going to Chesterfield midweek in mates shitty mustard coloured Austin Allegro with Square steering wheel it was pissing down I was in back and the poxy sills were shot so the footwells filled up with rainwater.Feet wet through and frozen stiff. Worse journey to a game in living memory.
Puking up in Stockport on the way to Notts County int FA Cup after pissing myself laughing over the smell of my own trump box motion.
Donnys Gage.
17 February 2017 at 4:36 pm #155446Bury away and a two all draw on a flooded pitch.
Was that the game where Mark Leonard turned away celebrating a late winner only for the ball to stop in a puddle a foot from the line?
I seem to think it was.
3 all actually – Boxing Day fancy dress.
Typical Latics (and I suppose Bury too) – very muddy, rain-soaked pitch. So what did the defences do? Kept playing balls back to their keeper – which of course never reached their target, stuck in the mud, and created havoc.17 February 2017 at 5:20 pm #155447Anonymous
I remember a boxing day win away at Oldham on one Boxing day. I was certainly in my teens, or younger! Got a feeling it was the year 2000 (Or somewhere around that point, if it was 2000 I would have been 10 years of age!)
We won the Match 2-1, that wasn’t why it is remembered thogh, mainly for the abuse me and my old man got from Oldham fans/locals for turning up in fancy dress as ‘Arabs’ (Basically just bedsheets etc) and we certainly weren’t the only ones…
Good times.

Also remember going to last game at Highbury. Amazing. The second me, my folkes and 2 friends of theirs that came got out the car, they cockneys were offering ridiculous sums of money for the tickets which was swiftly met with a ‘Do one, no chance’ …
Sat next to some of Paul Scharners Family (I know brother and sister were there, unsure who else but they were too keen to show us passports as proof) and celebrating like crazy with em when Scharner scored.
Remember David Thompsons free kick very fondly, also remember Matt Lucas saying Hi to me on the way in..
All in all very good memories overall from the day, soured by Pascal ChimneyDick handing in the transfer request.
17 February 2017 at 6:40 pm #155449Tales from the older chaps about the trip to Newcastle and the replay at Springy. My father went to the Newcastle away game on a coach organised by Triangle Valve; it took about six hours to get there (and back). Said the Newcastle fans were very gracious and some were offering him back to theirs for tea and bevvies after the game.

17 February 2017 at 7:51 pm #155452Bill kenyon coming up to me in the days when i worked at morrisons in the galleries (90 – 93), & asking me “can you tell me where your buckets are please.”
Living in the same street as tony pennock (dereham way, winstanley)
Kevin nicholls living at the bottom of our street (gladden hey drive, winstanley). He lived in another street but it faced our house.
Meeting joe hinnegan at my grandma & grandads in wallgate the day before he was leaving for sunderland.
Bumping into larry lloyd in asda.
Bumping into roberto martinez (the player) at sainsburys cafe. It was around 12pm. I went over & asked if he was playing today. He replied “yes, im just having something light for lunch before making my way to the ground.” He had beans on toast.
Bumping into the latics team of ’87 at manchester airport. They were jetting of somewhere for end of season break. We were dropping someone off. My dad asked if we could have a photo with them. They obliged.
An ex workmate of my dad who was a football league referee used to give us free tickets for the main stand (springy park days) when he came down to ref. We would also get complimentary tickets to go into the players lounge after the game. Me as a kid going up to the likes of bobby campbell, donny page etc. & getting starstruck.

17 February 2017 at 9:24 pm #155460I remember thowd chap taking me to Lancaster, think it was int FA Trophy. There was a large hill in the ground, quite a few Tics fans were on top of the hill, and loads of Lancaster kept running up it. Kicks and punches galore. Quite a bit of fisticuffs that day.
