The home internationals, a great way to finish a football season.

The last player to score a hat trick against England was?

It was in the home internationals I believe.[/quote]

Sorry Nuneaton, but after a bit of digging I have come up with these facts about hat-tricks against England.

The last hat-trick was by Zlatan Ibrahimovic who scored 4 against England in a friendly in Sweden in 2012. (2-4)
The last competitive hat-trick against England was scored by Marco van Basten in the Euros in 1988 in Holland. (1-3)
Alex Jackson got a hat-trick against England in the Home Internationals for Scotland in 1928 at Wembley. (1-5)

The last England player to score a hat-trick was Jermaine Defoe in a Euro qualifier at Wembley against Bulgaria in 2010. (4-0)

I bow to your superior knowledge horc

BTW, Van Bastens goal in the 88 final has to be one of the greatest ever scored.

It’s not knowledge mate, it was the power of Google.
Agree with you regarding the Van Basten goal, at the time, I thought, ‘you jammy git, it could have gone anywhere’, but the more you watched it, the better it got, it was absolutely brilliant.

The thing I remember most about the 88 finals was Bryan Robson’s performance when we played Holland, Never stopped battling against a superior team, ok we lost the match but he showed what it was to play with passion for your country.

Or at least that’s how I remember it.

I remember when renewing a season ticket was easy, what a palaver it’s been this year, but its all sorted now. If anyone still needs to renew, don’t use Google Chrome or Safari, Firefox came to the rescue in the end.

Setting off to the match at 2.15pm on a Saturday afternoon from Eccleston and parking up Norbreck Close off Springfield Road and thinking we might have over 2000 on because we had to park near the top,

It was canal street for us the a walk up the slippery slope to the main car park. Standing wherever you felt like and walking round towards the exit for the last few mins. Great days but wouldn’t go back, what we have now is a much better facility, maybe not as exciting though!

Knew it was match day as only time I ever went through those revolving doors of the Pagefield with a hand full of fixed odds coupons.

In this day of internet betting and being able to bet on absolutely anything, are the ‘Pools’ or ‘Spot the ball’ still going?

There was allways a coach that brought home fans to Springfield every match. Cant remember either an Unsworth or an Eavesway.

It was probably the supporters club coach, although, I do remember catching one of loads of coaches setting off and returning to Springy for a big match once.

Think it was an Eavesway that brought home fans from over Ashton and Brynn to home matches.

Remember catching one of Hurst’s coaches from that little office they had on the main road in Goose Green……Walsall away we drew 1-1 having gone in front through Tony Quinn who scored in each of his first five league matches and we thought we had a world beater on our hands ….

                            Alas….
