No doubt, I am regarded as one of the rose-tinted spectacles wearing Whelan luvvies as I am not in the train of thought that wants to a pull a ‘Shipman’ on him at the first opportunity.

It seems however, that many people are completely missing the point with Whelan’s investment in the club.

Yes there was a Wigan Athletic before Whelan, and yes there will be one after he’s gone, but there would not be a Premier League Wigan Athletic without him.

Would the club have got there by merit, and investment from the loyal supporters?

Would a multi-millionaire, other than one from Wigan, be interested in a club in the lower leagues, with no fanbase, and a dilapidated ground?

Were there any other Wigan multi-millionaires interested in buying the club?

If a local millionaire came up to you today and let you live in a huge house, drive a nice car, and invited you to all the best show-biz parties because you made him look good, would you have the right in a few years time to complain that you wanted to go to better parties, and kick up a fuss if he planned to sell the house and car?

And, off topic slightly…..if you got home and your beloved wife of twenty years had burned your dinner everyday for a few weeks, would you beat the living daylights out of her and demand a divorce, or would you say ‘You’re a sh*t cook, but I love you anyway’?

Think about it, and answer honestly.

If only there was a club motto to follow….

        Progress with Unity !

We have been punshing above our weight for a long time, lets enjoy the dissapointment of the lower half of the premiership while it lasts. If we do go down this season then we will have deserved it. We have half a season to turn this around, or continue as we are and stay up just. Whelan needs to back the club with signings and better coaches, am sure he wont take huge risks, but he has the opportunity.

Without Whelan we would be the faithful 500 talking about the highlights of the 87 cup run, rather we have a 5 year run in the top flight.

Most Latics fans appreciate was he has done for, you’d be a bit naieve not to see it.
The lack of investment at the start of this season is the reason why we are where we are, and if no investment is forthcoming in the transfer window then we are going down.
It is now time for Mr Whelan to put up or shut up, or, as I said last night, maybe we have out grown our usefulness.

Yes we all know what whelan as done, and we all know how much money he has got back from the club, but it still doesnt mean we have to put up with the manager who is clueless, if that kind of manager was at whelans factory he would have been sacked by now, bloody hutchins got sacked for less, and we didnt look back, i just feel its time martinez went, just like ince at blackburn they are not up to managing a prem club, I dread to think of the players that are going to go in jan and the players martinez is going to bring in, Just feel more heavy defeats coming in 2010,

He will only be allowed to buy players that fall within the tight budgetry restaints that Whelan sets, and that is the problem.
No club/manager can be expected to succeed by selling players to the value of £40M and replace them with £5m worth of championship players.

              Just do a few comparisons-

Heskey £3.5m replaced by Scotland £2m
Valencia £17m replaced by Gomez £1m
Palacios £14m replaced by Watson £1m
Cattermole £8m replaced by McCarthy £1m

£42.5m worth of players replaced by £5m worth of players, and you wonder why people get pi**ed off with Mr Whelan
I know the above are not exact replacements, but it still shows where the problem lies.

N’Zogbia £8m, Figueroa £7m, Rodalegga £7m Scharner £5m will be the next to go no doubt, and that will then leave us with a squad worth less than what we had in the old 2nd division.

Dave Whelan will not sack Martinez and I will confidently predict that he will put the club up for sale this summer, whether anyone wants to take it on is a different matter,

I have said that for a couple of seasons now, but we need to be in the prem for someone to buy or we could end up with a kenyon or gage again

Figueroa £7m, Scharner £5m

I’ll drive them there meself.

Surely it would be in his best interest to sell the club as a PL club. However we may be easier to sell as a championship club.
As VAT69 has said the next months activities will tell us all we need to know.
