What exactly IS the point of playing it?
There is no excuse to be given for playing this game, as the timing is bloody abysmal. 3 days before the season starts? I mean, come on! What is to be gained from it, exactly?***
I’ve seen a few players have been crying off and have not trained today, including Darren Bent and Frank Lampard, among others.
In all honesty, I’d love Hungary to come and stuff us, like Puskas’ team did all those years ago.
If ever there was a needless friendly, it’s this one. I rather like what Bayern Munich have done, with their internationals. They have REFUSED to release players, as it is NOT a designated ‘international break’. I think that is spot on, and I wish a few other clubs would follow suit. Ok, it doesn’t really bother us too much. But then again, Stam and N’Zogbia have been called up. Has McCarthy? It’s pathetic playing internationals at this time. Pointless.
*** Or is it more to do with ‘games played’ quotas at Wembley, and sponsorship? Disgraceful.

While I agree with all you say it is Fifa that has sanctioned these freindlies although I’m sure you could opt out of it

Oh…Oh….Foster has pulled out of the squad. They’ll get to Kirkland soon enough.
10 August 2010 at 10:19 pm #41985They keep saying its FIFA who have fixed the dates. If so, is there no one at FIFA capable of looking at the various country’s fixtures and realizing it’s not a good idea to have friendlies a few days before the season starts?
10 August 2010 at 10:28 pm #41986FIFA registered the dates but it isn’t mandatory to play. England have opted too as have many others. Not much we can do.
