I think many of us will be dissapointed once the window shuts as i dont see us making any big moves to strengthen the squad. Its gonna be a case of can we keep hold of current players i rekon and im dreading the last day just hoping we dont lose key members at the last minute. I truly hope im wrong but i admit to being a bit sceptical when i hear Whelan saying he doesnt intend to sell anyone.
14 January 2011 at 2:31 am #55396Dave and roberto have stated no players will be leaving!
14 January 2011 at 3:17 am #55400It’s no secret that we have to sell players, so I think it might be a case of Whelan trying to entice higher bids – ‘ We don’t need to sell, blah, blah blah, how much? Take him!’
All I hope is, if I player is allowed to leave it is completed within sufficient time to get a replacement in – and we don’t get last minute hiccups in typical Wigan-stylee and end up short of a player or two.
14 January 2011 at 12:02 pm #55410I feel a little dissapointed already as players have moved to clubs in a similar position to us who i feel we should have bid for. Yakubu, Bentley, Santa Cruz
14 January 2011 at 12:21 pm #55413Many of our relegation rivals do seem to be either signing players, taking players on loan or are constantly in the news / media about possible signings – which will have the effect of strengthening or freshening up their squads, which also gives the club and fans new hope and momentum
As usual our club is very quiet which leads to our fans being sceptical as detailed above
14 January 2011 at 2:31 pm #55447Whereas if we were being linked with a dozen players but didn’t sign any of them, the club would get stick for not closing out deals. It’s one of those situations where the club just can’t seem win no matter what.

OK, Mr Scattergun, ;)
Take a look at the BBC list of done deals in this window and you’ll see that Birmingham have taken Bentley on loan and West Ham, Wayne Bridge.
So yes, I can see how you get that s.
As for constantly being in the press, what purpose does that serve?
14 January 2011 at 2:52 pm #55451at least brum and spam are trying
14 January 2011 at 2:55 pm #55452Our club will always have to sell players to balance the books, but why would we do it now when we are fighting for our lives.
It hardly makes sense to get rid of our players now when we still have a chance of securing our big pot of Premier League money for next season.
When we sold Palacios and Heskey we had just had a fantastic first half of the season and were well on the road to safety, plus we were offered money that was too good to turn down at the time.
No club is going to offer the true market value for our stars as you very rarely get any big business done in January. It will all be loans with views to permanent deals in the summer. If we hang on to Nnnnnn’Zogbia (as Stuart Hall calls him) then we will probably get a few million quid less for him in the summer, but if he helps keep us up, how much more money is that worth to us? Same goes for Hugo.
I don’t think we’ll do any other business apart from getting someone in on loan to replace Boselli as we have good midfielders coming back in McCarthy and Moses and another back-up front man in Di Santo. We are also well covered in defence.
However if someone came in for Figueroa………. :D
14 January 2011 at 3:12 pm #55455at least brum and spam are tryingSo if you don’t read something in the gossip columns it means we’re not trying?

thats for old woman14 January 2011 at 4:03 pm #55466We simply have to end this transfer window with a slightly stronger squad than we entered it with.
If we end up slightly weaker we would be in trouble.
The big one for me is keeping N’Zogbia. Whoever comes in for him we have to give them the bums rush. ( Whatever that is :? ) Tell him to do the business for us , help keep us up and then he can get his “big ” transfer, if any big clubs come in for him. We need to get in another striker more suitable to our style of play , maybe a few tweeks here and there , get the injured players back and we “should ” be alright.
14 January 2011 at 4:12 pm #55467I’ve just realised I could have saved time and cyber ink by simply saying , I agree with Swindon. :)

Apparently, Kenny Dalglish wants Nzogbia.
