Set to be in before the deadline on the 31st
Martinez is bracing himself for a frenzied few days ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.
Mauro Boselli is expected to complete his loan move to Serie A strugglers Palermo in the next 24 hours, which should free up a considerable chunk of cash off the wage bill.
And the Wigan boss could be looking to bring in as many as THREE new signings to bolster his squad ahead of the run-in.
Republic of Ireland winger Aiden McGeady is understood to be top of his hit-list, although the Spartak Moscow man would not come cheap.
The 26-year-old, an international colleague of James McCarthy, is well known to Gary Caldwell and Shaun Maloney from their Celtic days.
Indeed, the Wigan skipper admitted last week McGeady would be a welcome addition to the DW squad.
Martinez is also seeking defensive reinforcements, having lost Ivan Ramis for the rest of the campaign with a serious knee injury.
Latics were mentioned over the weekend as being interested in a loan move for Arsenal’s Carl Jenkinson – although the waters are muddied by the fact they have already filled their domestic loan quota with Angelo Henriquez and Ryo Miyaichi.
One possibility would be for Miyaichi to return to Arsenal after seeing injury wreck his spell with Wigan, and Jenkinson arriving in his place, although Stoke, West Ham and Fulham are also after the young England defender.
Having offloaded Boselli, Martinez is also light in the striking department, especially with Arouna Kone currently away at the African Nations Cup.
If something were to happen to Franco di Santo, that would leave 18-year-old Henriquez as the only recognised centre-forward on the books.
Martinez also has the small matter of tomorrow night’s Premier League trip to Stoke City to occupy his thoughts, although Boselli’s exit should be rubber-stamped well before then.
“We’ve agreed a loan deal with Palermo and Mauro will go back to Italy, where he had a spell with Genoa, until the end of the season,” Martinez said.
“That was the reason why he wasn’t in the squad on Saturday.”
I don’t think we can take Jenkinson on loan even if we send Miyaichi back.

from the same Transferor Club“If I were a betting man (and a fiver says I’m not) I would only expect a centre-back coming in before Friday. Or, a wing-back that would allow Boyce or Figueroa to be playcover in the back three.
At a push, maybe another striker, but I doubt that too. It’d be nice to be wrong for a change, though! ;)

Sky Sports News has reported this afternoon that we’ve had a bid rejected for Stones from Barnsley but that we’ve gone back in for him today. I’m sure I’ve read somewhere that Wenger has said Jenkinson isn’t available for loan. Looks as though Becchio is heading abroad. No new news on McGeady and I fear the Ecuadorian winger is just a rumour.
I’d be surprised to see more than 1 new player arrive although I do think we need 3. A defender, winger and striker.
I as Griff said would also love to be proved wrong.
