24 October 2019 at 11:06 am #181546I honestly believe we have the players and squad to win away from home. Unfortunately we have a manager who cant or wont.
Spot on, certain areas of the park we looked good i.e midfield, keeper played well but the crucial position of upfront let us down once again, but overall a half decent effort but with no reward.
Theres a young lad screaming to prove himself and with the game at our mercy which is rarer than do-do sh1te and what does he do ?, brings on Garner. Someone who couldn’t hit a garage door with a space hopper. Possibly Pilkington for 5-10 minutes ? go and win it ?. Nope Cook thought a point will do and sadly it backfired. In my eyes the best form of defence is attack especially when the opponents are as awful as Derby were.
Derby look to me like the team who would have been happy with just a point not us. A game like this is were we should be pushing hard for a winner. The way Cook plays Moore means he’ll be dam lucky to hit half a dozen. This “Hit the big lad up top”, does not work for Moore.
Away form like this means we have to beat every sod at home, no pressure on the lads there Paul .. ffs
24 October 2019 at 12:09 pm #181547We are beating most sides at home cupwinners so the pressure doesn’t seem to bother the lads too much ;)
Forgetting last night for a moment we clearly have a mental block away from home. The number of mistakes we make away that we don’t make at home and stupid goals we give away is ridiculous. I’m not sure how much of that is down to Cook or his tactics. Tactics don’t make you make mistakes.
Last night I thought we were excellent in most parts and was happy with a point and more importantly a clean sheet and then BANG. Great goal that you can’t blame on anyone but with our away record you feel extra p***** off especially given the chances we missed. Maybe the pressure of finding a win gets to the players in front of goal.
I agree about Moore. He wins practically every header but heads it to nobody. I was hoping that Jamal Lowe with his pace would be the perfect backup for him but he looks League One at best with his finishing which goes back to what I’ve said before. We sign League One players we HOPE can step up. Whether it’s wins at home only or a mix of both I think we are a bottom half Championship side at best that will flirt with relegation.

If only we could improve the away form, we’d be flirting around the top half – playoff positions. Not relegation!!
24 October 2019 at 1:14 pm #181549I don’t think we would improve it that much. Be 1 or 2 wins and we end up 12th-15th. We’re not a season long top half side IMHO

We are nowhere near a promotion chasing team by any stretch of the imagination. I was referring to “at this particular stage of the season.” Had we won a couple of games away we would be a lot higher & folks might be slightly happier.
24 October 2019 at 4:06 pm #181555Watched it back this morning and so annoyed that they basically gave the Derby bloke a free pop at goal like kids playing ‘three and in ‘ !!Three of our players basically stood right beside him and waved him through while he hit his ‘free ‘ shot at goal to give Derby the points!!!
Poor basic defending again and that little snippet of play tells us so much about our lack of desire away from home and the inability to see games out when not faced with the pressure of the home supporters. No coincidence in my view just a lack of desire across the park and an acceptance of our fate.
No quality up whatsoever up top and players of genuine forward quality are left on the bench while the selected forwards lumber about the place missing sitters.
Beyond the joke and very very annoying but easily solved with correct team selection and tactics.
Was so positive after sunday but back to normal we go :(24 October 2019 at 4:23 pm #181556This season away:
Played 7
Won 0
Drawn 1
Lost 6
For 3
Against 13
Points 1This season away plus last season away:
Played 30
Won 2
Drawn 6
Lost 22
For 25
Against 57
Points 12Is it really bad luck?
Had we had a similar record at home maybe we could put it down to luck but it’s obvious his tactics on the road are totally useless. Derby were bad last night and there to be beaten but he was never going to go for it and take a risk. To me it appears he is happy with a point away every game but he forgets we concede too many coupled with his negativity up front means it always backfires and we lose again and again and again.
24 October 2019 at 5:38 pm #181559Did anyone bring up the away form at the forum by any chance?

The thing is there are folk on here saying we were unlucky last night and have argued we’ve been unlucky in many of the other 22 games we’ve lost away since the start of last season. At some point there has to be a realisation that it isn’t just down to bad luck. Maybe resignation has set, expecting the worst, a mental block, a habit that can’t be shaken off. Cook seems incapable of reversing that and so nothing changes. And it’s not necessarily a fault of his team selections, how it’s set up or the style of play. Last season he achieved his objective, but only just. The expectation this season is to see improvement, especially after money has been spent, but those same failings are still evident and an inability to correct those failing will be his downfall.
24 October 2019 at 10:13 pm #181561No negatives from me on that performance. We are finally looking like a team, players left everything on the pitch.
Creating chances to, one goal would have probably seen 2 or 3. Their man looked offside and in the goalies line of view for the goal.
I’m gutted for Cook and all the players.I didn’t go but watching on SSN looked like one of their players was 2 yards off side and obstructed the view of Marshall. Poor decision by linesman & not one of our players made a claim for it??
24 October 2019 at 10:20 pm #181562Good performance that. Created chances. Great strike won it. Can’t have strikers who can’t score. Moore hold up play good but little threat. 10 games without a goal?Said the same against Forest. He works his socks off but never looks like scoring or creating an assist. Don’t see the point myself.
Most of these big centre backs enjoy a good tussle but don’t like pace. I’d have Gelhardt on myself.24 October 2019 at 10:38 pm #181563Absolutely…..if he’s good enough hes old enough. What is the point of all this time invested in such a talent and then not using him. Load of bollocks all this too much too soon,he must be chomping to get game time and last night was a perfect opportunity to use him last 20. What instead ??..Not use him then flog him and let useless blow the funds on work horses !!!..Ideal foil for Moore and more than anything…..youth players like him play with no fear…….Won’t change under Cook…….another miserable season in store for us last season repeated.

Come on cookie! You know what to do.
25 October 2019 at 12:06 am #181565What’s the point of playing Gelhardt. It will be same scenario its style of play not individuals that is killing us. It would only knock the lads confidence and stunt his progression. Plenty time for him once changes are made and we play more offensive football.
Either Cookie changes or we change Cookie. Only answer.
25 October 2019 at 12:15 am #181566As Brownbills already stated Moore would be a goal machine with the right service so it’s probably futile to try Gelhardt.
