Peter Houghton one of the best players ever to play for the tic’s imo.
Never gets the recognition he deserves on here

Was this match on Friday night ??????

I’m sure I went for the weekend with my mate, who’s girlfriend had moved down there the year before. (it was either 1979 or 1980, all abit blurred!!!)

We went on the train Friday morning, stayed at her house in Paighton Friday and Saturday night, then train home on the Sunday (what a long journey that is).

Remember coming back to Paighton on the bus after the game, reading the programme (obviously the pages about Wigan) and the whole bus started singing “we hate Wigan and we hate Wigan”.

                I soon closed the programme.

Later on went to a night club that was playing loads of northern soul and punk music.

Had a great weekend but the girl ended up dumping my mate at the station on the Sunday.

I remember Larry Lloyd saying when he was manager that he could (and should) have played at a higher level.
He had bags of pace and an eye for goal but whether he could have hacked it in a higher division is debatable. He was certainly one of the best Latics players of that era.
