Well the general feeling on this board is that we will sell big time :([/quote]
We only have 3 vaguely saleable players (Rodallega, Moses, Diame) and if neither of them are showing no signs of signing a new contract, particularly the two that are out of contract at the end of the season, then of course we should sell them them.

Griff, your teeth dropped on your closing comment !! :)
4 January 2012 at 10:36 pm #76951What do people think will happen this window?
Firstly Griff is right we must sell if they aint gonna sign contracts.
I personally dont expect any incomings untill the end of Jan I think mr Whelan will see what position we are in before he sanctions any money. We will not sign players on big wages if we are looking certs for the drop so we will go down the loan route.Mr Whelan will not jeapordise the long term future by spending millions on players who will be in the championship in the coming months. My worry im afraid is RM and his policy of bringing in players who never get a look in.Surely this time Bobby please think of the next few months and not the future. We need bodies in the first team now not later.
This is only my oppinion.

I’m now a stuttering, as well as a bald, bastard ;)
4 January 2012 at 11:32 pm #76955I would hate to see Diame or Moses go, they are two with potential to be top premier league players. They are both well away from being the finished product yet, but in 2 years time could potentially be £15m -£20m players the way the market is going.
If I was Whelan I’d be making these two the top earners in the club, which may just help us stay in the prem this season. In addition they will provide our illustrious chairman with a nice little war chest that we’ve all been looking for since hitting the prem. Who would have thought that it would be DW himself that may be the benefactor of the famous “war chest”As for Rodders, he’s done well for us over the past few years but struggles in Bobby’s lone striker formation. I wouldn’t lose too much sleep if he went as long as he is replaced and we don’t have to rely on Di Santo and Sammon. These two “at the moment” are good bench players at best.
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!5 January 2012 at 1:01 am #76960The problem with our vaguely saleable players (as I have started to call them) is that they are probably nowhere near the top of any other club’s wish list this January. Therefore, the chances of them being signed much before the end of the window, ie when clubs start to panic, are fairly slim, giving us even less chance of bringing in decent replacements. At the same time, the longer January goes on without them signing new contracts, the more the club will, and should, be keen to sell.
There’s an argument that says you should keep them and let them go for nothing in the summer in the hope that them staying improves our chances of staying in the league. It’s a financial risk, and not one that Whelan is famous for taking. Tough one for the club’s management to deal with.
Still, that’s what they get paid for. Our job is simply to throw ill-informed bricks at them ;)

Sorry Griff…but there is nothing vagueabout it/them (no need to try and ‘coin’ a phrase). They either ‘sign on’ or they go…..business is business. Further, in this day and age, there is no argument that says we should keep them and let them go for nothing in the summer (regardless)….potential financial suicide not risk.
If the ‘management’ (senior and/or playing) are waiting to see what points we pick up in the next few games before deciding on what playing staff we have will turn us into a ‘Russian Roulette’ team…
oops – coined a phrase there. ;)
