What do you make of them?
Just been looking at a load of them on line, mainly Robbie Williams ones. Christ, some of them are god awful…..and they are making an absolute mint, y’know?
I’ve always mocked them, saying they are sad for using someone else’s fame. But are they? They are on minimum £500 a night, usually a lot more. I’m thinking “sod it! If someone will pay me daft money to prance around a stage for an hour, pretending to be someone else, then bring it on!”
Honestly. The thing is, most of the ones I have watched sound absolutely NOTHING LIKE Robbie Williams. But they get decent promo material and away they go.
Opinions?
12 November 2009 at 5:15 pm #12825Ive seen some shite but at the same time theres some good ones doing the rounds but these are usually bands that then go and do other songs aswell!
Theres a good Rod Stewart one that is the Uncle of my Godson. Only problemis hes from Leigh! lol! I think hes on at the Brittania at xmas but hes done the Cruise Ships including the Americans and all over the country and id highly thought of!
12 November 2009 at 6:32 pm #12840Faz,
It’s advertised in the Observer, but they’ve cocked up and put Rod STUART instead of ‘Stewart’. That has to have been done by an 18 year old office girl, doesn’t it? Ha Ha!!!
I went to a wedding 2 years ago, and at the do, I was at the bar. I looked to my left, and stood next to me was……Robbie Williams.
Except it wasn’t. It was a tribute act. Honestly, he was the SPIT of him. It was…well, it was JUST…him! It was amazing. However, when he sang he sounded absolutely nothing like him, which was a big dissappointment.
I did a Robbie Tribute years ago, under pressure to do so by an agent. It was alright, but it got over the top when I was arriving at places and there were big 15 feet banners outside with the REAL Robbie Williams picture on. I didn’t feel happy about it all. That was back in 2000-2002 time.
Good wedge now though, and I think I’ll have a crack at it. One guy (who looks and sounds crap) is making about TEN grand in December alone!12 November 2009 at 6:35 pm #12841“However, when he sang he sounded absolutely nothing like him, which was a big dissappointment”
No, that’s a big plus surely !
(Is it OK if I call you surely?)

Good entertainer.
I just hate seeing crap tribute acts. They give it ‘rice’ then sound more like Michael Ball (The singer) than Robbie Williams.
13 November 2009 at 1:49 am #12920You normally find proper tribute bands e.g Bootleg Beatles, Australian Pink Floyd, Stone Roses Experience etc are technically better performers and singers than the originals but alas, they’re not the Real McCoy. I’m not talking about have a go rubbing rags who play local pubs and clubs here, I’m talking properly trained musicians who put on really good shows. The Beatles were the greatest studio band ever but notoriously bad live.
All Robbie Williams tribute acts will be better than the original, by the way.
13 November 2009 at 2:12 am #12923Robbie Williams is a talentless waste of space who used his fame from being in Take That as a spring board. He had a good writer in Guy Chambers and by using a combination of the 2 was soon outselling everyone else in the business ten fold. However when he parted company with Chambers the inevitable happened and he swiftly fell from grace. He is currently making a bit of a come back. Why you ask…..Linked with Take That reunion !!
14 November 2009 at 2:35 pm #12998Well a little bird has told me, from a little bird who heard it from another, and so on and so forth, that this years X factor winner will have a major challenge for the Christmas number one……..
From a Take That WITH Robbie Williams in the line up, release.
Think about it as well, why would R.W. rush out his CD in November, rather than December? You have to wonder……..
I saw him at M.E.N. in 2000-01 ish, and despite the place being full of screaming mingers, he put on a great show. He was pretty good actually. He has a limited talent, but I think he realises that and does well with what he has got.
I really don’t understand why people knock him so much. Personally, I have absolutely no time for the likes of Kasabian and Kings Of Leon. Arctic Monkey’s? Keane? I think they are crap. Most who I listen to, are dead.
And that Alexandra Burke? She is doing my head in big-time.
