Bloody rubbish Wigan !! :P
19 March 2014 at 2:35 am #128787They weren’t dropped, they were thrown away ! Schoolboy defending at the end.
19 March 2014 at 2:56 am #128788Tonight was disappointing and agree it’s 2 points dropped given the defensive errors and missing a penalty. Loosing Perch early didn’t help obviously.
That said, with so many games in such a short space of time, there was bound to be a poor result somewhere. Let’s hope tonight is the only one and move on for Saturday.
On the bright side, QPR lost and with the compacted fixture list we’ve got to pick ourselves up and get on with it. Dropping points to Yeovil, whilst it looks bad at first glance, isn’t ultimately going to cost us as much as dropping points to teams around us. Let’s win at QPR instead :)
19 March 2014 at 3:12 am #128789In that last 10 minutes alone I went through a feeling of complacency, then despair, then ecstacy, to a feeling of oh sh1t right at the end. Entertaining though.
19 March 2014 at 10:33 am #128790I suppose the run of victories had to end at some point it’s just a surprise it came against a bottom 3 side.
We defended poorly. I couldn’t believe how much time Miller got to score his 2nd – no one closed him down. The defense were like statues. And as for the corner for their 3rd …………. :pinch:
Still we didn’t lose and QPR lost so not all bad.
The injuries are totting up though. Barnett,McCann and now Perch.Let’s hope the latter’s is not too serious as I’m still not sure about Rogne.
The last 2 home performances compared to the last 2 away seem to indicate we play better footie away from home at the moment.Hit em on the break perhaps ??????
19 March 2014 at 11:32 am #128792I don’t see it as 2 dropped at all. Last night was always going to be a banana skin. I’m pleased we picked up a point after going 2-1 down to 2 very clinical finishes and that we are still unbeaten in 9. Rather Yeovil had the points too rather than one of our promotion rivals. We’ve all seen what complacency can do do a team so no harm in being reminded how tough this league will be right through to May.
19 March 2014 at 12:11 pm #128793It could be seen as either 2pts dropped or 1pt gained, such was the last 10 mins of the game.
However, looking at a bigger picture, I’m sure even the most die-hard fan wouldn’t have expected to have won the last 6 league games before tonight, and if they had been offered 19pts out of the next 21 at 5pm on 8 Feb, they would have taken it.

In fairness to rogne it was his 1st game for many months so he’s bound to be lacking in match practice. However, he will need to get up to speed quick if barnett is missing for a while because IMO barnett has been one of my player of the seasons (as well as the usual mr (dependable) boyce.
as for 2 points dropped against lower league opposition, don’t forget, they are fighting for their lives, similar to what we used to do for the past 8 seasons bar 1 or 2, so they’d have been up for that game last night. IMO we looked a bit tired last night & maybe a little bit of complacency had set in before a ball had even been kicked.
19 March 2014 at 1:36 pm #128799I believe Caldwell is fit and raring to go !

19 March 2014 at 2:26 pm #128801Wigan played some gorgeous football last night. Perhaps that was the problem, they knew they were better than Yeovil and took victory for granted.
McEachran, Gomez and Powell are surely the most elegant midfield in the Championship. McManaman was running circles around the opposition. But, despite the award of the penalty, Wigan found it difficult to create scoring chances.
The referee was unpredictable, but I don’t know if that favoured either side.
Yeovil were outplayed but never gave in. Wigan’s defence had an unusual look without Barnett and McCann and then Perch after his collision with McManaman. The arrival of Tunnicliffe added a little more muscle, but increased the unfamiliarity among the defence too. Yeovil took full advantage.
Wigan sliced through the Yeovil defence to score – as they should have done long before. But Yeovil persevered to the very end to score the equaliser.

Mutty, please stop taking sense. You know it will upset people here.

Don’t ask him to stop when he’s only just started.

I must have blinked and missed that??
19 March 2014 at 5:18 pm #128807They had some wonderful interchanges in midfield. McEachran, Powell, Gomez and McArthur must be the most talented midfield in the Championship.
McManaman is showing all his skills once more. Uwe seems to have demanded – and got – more industry from Gomez and more responsibility from McArthur going forwards too.
And Powell running with the ball looks like a thoroughbred racing against nags.
Sadly, it didn’t lead to many goal scoring chances. But then, Yeovil are Uwe’s bogey team!
