Wigan failed in a last-ditch transfer deadline day attempt to sign three new players, chief executive Brenda Spencer has confirmed.
Latics manager Roberto Martinez was knocked back buy his ex-employers Swansea in a new offer for Dutch midfielder Ferrie Bodde, reportedly because his former club Den Haag will demand a 50 per cent fee should the Championship club sell him, while striker Scott McDonald of Celtic also failed to arrive at the DW Stadium.
Rangers striker Kris Boyd emerged as a last-day target but again no deal materialised and Spencer told MEN Sport: “We were trying extremely hard to bring in three players but nothing materialised.
“It’s frustrating when that happens.”
