Gelhardt, Weir and Kyle Joseph all starting.
8 January 2020 at 11:58 pm #1837991-0 up at half time. Probably the better side.
9 January 2020 at 12:25 am #1838002-0
9 January 2020 at 1:04 am #183801Superb result. Spurs beat Liverpool the holders in the last round.
9 January 2020 at 1:14 am #183802We looked the far better side throughout I thought. Future is definitely bright.
9 January 2020 at 1:50 am #183803Tonight was a magnificent performance against a team that was physically bigger, but certainly not stronger than our lads.
We really let them off the hook as it could and should have been more than two.Out of a number of stand out performances I thought McGurk was superb, and probably the smallest player on pitch.
9 January 2020 at 2:16 am #183805Agree. He was excellent, and although the smallest on the field wasn’t afraid to get stuck in.
9 January 2020 at 2:21 am #183806Great performance from our superb youngsters tonight.
A lot to look forward to and signs are club is building a brilliant youth policy and Geldhart and Weir first team standard already in my view.
Really enjoyed that tonight9 January 2020 at 2:56 am #183807Weir most certainly. Gelhardt didn’t win a single physical battle. He’ll get killed playing against senior pros.
9 January 2020 at 3:21 am #183809Don’t agree with your last comment took their right back to pieces for the second goal.
Wasn’t the star man though, that for me was little McGurk closely followed by Joseph and Wier. Also like the left back Robinson. That team performance was the best all round display from a Wigan Athletic team I’ve seen in ages. Definitely 3 or 4 of them lads should be nurtured into the first team squad. From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!9 January 2020 at 10:57 am #183811Skill wise he’s brilliant no doubting that
9 January 2020 at 4:39 pm #183817Geldhart was caught in posession a few times however when he did get on the ball his impact was devastating particularly when the ball is in front of him.
Has the rare ability to create clear cut chances out of nothing and he did that on several occasions and but for their very good and extremely busy goalkeeper could easily have bagged a couple.
I hope and trust Cook was there last night because there are several players amongst this lot that could easily be in the first team squad and should be.9 January 2020 at 5:14 pm #183818Cook was there as were the rest of the coaching staff according to the interviews on latics tv. Interesting comments for those quick to slag the club off.
Didnt go myself as i was at work, but is mcgurk the ginger kid?
9 January 2020 at 8:36 pm #183823Yes McGurk was a revelation. When the teams came out they had a 6’6″ centre forward and we had the 5’2″ winger. There was only one stand out player amongst those two and our man looked 3 leagues above the Spurs mon. Consider the catchment area and pick of the crop Spurs have, our lads looked far the better prospects. There wasn’t one player on our team that played bad. Talk about a well drilled all know their responsibilities bunch of kids. I hope Cook and Richardson took note of their work ethic and battle till the end mentality. If he doesn’t bleed some of these lads into the first team squad, not just Gelardt, he is a bigger fool than we all think.
Forget they are only U18’s blah, blah, blah, 7 or 8 of those Spurs lads will make the grade, they are no slouchers having beaten a fantastic Liverpool team in the previous round.
Our club is in good hands if Cook and gang do what they should and test some of these lads at championship level sooner rather than later. From Matlock to ManU
