Match postponed today due to Covid cases in the Oxford camp
Blast…was really up for it today
Ridiculous, if they had 7 injuries the match would have still gone ahead.
We had five injured and 4 on international duty on Tuesday and still played an FA Cup replay. I thought that was what squads, reserves and youngsters etc were for.
They should be fined and deducted points for such a late and lame excuse for a postponement.The law is that the vaccinated close contacts in the rest of the squad need to isolate and take a PCR. If negative, they are eligible to play. Those unvaccinated close contacts will have to isolate for 10 days.
As all adults have been offered a vax, I dont think there is any flexibility in future games being called off because of close contacts having to isolate and whilst it is not much comfort to Wigan, Oxford’s next two opponents will be rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of facing the youth team.
I suspect they are also regretting rearranging the league game with Sunderland for a fortnight today.
Karl Robinson thought that Oxford should have been awarded the three points after Swindon called a game off at Oxford due to covid on the Friday night before a Saturday game last season. Will be interesting to see what he has to say this time ,no doubt he has changed his mind.

The reason the game was called off is that the rest of the squad who were identified as close contacts would have to immediately isolate and take a PCR test (if double vaccinated), and only be allowed out of isolation once the test comes back negative. Thats the law of the land.
PCR tests take longer to record a result than a lateral flow test – usually 24-48 hours. Even the private ones take that long. With the symptoms and lateral flow tests only happening on Saturday morning, they didnt have enough time to rustle up a goalkeeper and a squad of kids to take the field.
Its a pisser for the fans on Saturday, and I’m no fan of Oxford, Karl Robinson and their on-field shithouse tactics, but for once they have done the right thing here. I’d be more pissed off if they’d used it as an excuse to get future games called off.
Lets hope the covid-positive players, staff and families get through this unscathed.
