Put simply, we were beaten by a very good Aston Villa side. Sometimes you have to take a defeat on the chin. We were beaten by a top six side, who have quality throughout.
They have quality throughout the side, no more so than James Milner, who was, in my opinion, the best player to come to the DW stadium this season. Too many people were slaughtering Kirkland for his punched clearance, where I thought the way he hit it in, through a packed area, was absolute quality. Fair play. Great player, and one I can see going to United in the next couple of seasons, as he’d be a ready-made replacement for Paul Scholes. He’s got to go to South Africa. I also liked John Carew, who has a great touch for such a big fella.
Latics? I didn’t think we played bad. It was just the same old story, we lacked that final punch, up front. If anything, we are our own worst enemies, with the way we give possession away cheaply, and the mistakes we make.
Still, out of the two games this week, I never fancied us against Villa, and have always put far more importance on the Burnley game. However, slip up in that, and I won’t be taking that one on the chin, as I did last night’s defeat.
