What a disgrace this chap is.
A “so called” educated Sir who thinks up an election strap line of “Bollocks to Brexit”. If our working classes were to use this type of language, he would denounce us lacking education and attempt to label us as stereotypical little Englanders.Shame on you Vince and “Bollocks to Brussels”.
Seeing as 48% of the electorate didn’t want Brexit, and the Lib Dems polled 7.9% of the vote in 2017, this may be a canny move. We can assume that almost all of the 2.3m who voted Lib Dem in 2017 also voted Remain in 2016. That leaves around 13m who either didn’t vote or voted for one of the mainstream parties. What those 13m didn’t realise in 2017 is what a shit storm Brexit would be, so even if 10% of them now think “Bollocks to Brexit”, that increases Lib Dem support by over 50%.
If these Remainers truly want to stop it, then they need to vote either Lib Dem or Change UK. Similarly, the Bexiteers need to vote for Farage if they want to force through Brexit – Labour & Tory cant solve this any more.
This EU Election should be used as a 2nd Referendum. If you want to leave, vote Brexit Party/UKIP, and if you want to remain, vote Lib Dem/Change/Green. Nobody should be voting Labour/Conservative because neither has a united policy on Brexit.
Agreed Donny. I was one of those who voted Remain largely because Cameron had got concessions from the EU regarding state benefits for migrants being blocked for 7 years after arrival, which would deter anyone rocking up here and expecting freebies, which seemed to be the main concern for many voters.
We can take it as read that almost all the 48% don’t want a hard Brexit, but the unknown figure is how many of the 52% don’t want a hard Brexit either. I suspect there are a good few million who voted leave, but given a binary choice between Farage’s Brexit and remain would switch sides.
I’ve long-since accepted the result and just want a deal to be done. What I do not want, along with the other 15.5 million remain voters, is a Farage-style Brexit where we cut all ties with our biggest trading partners and see our economy shrink. I’d take May’s deal, or a Customs Union deal, as that’s the best Brexit the Brexiteers will get. There is not a cat in hell’s chance that Farage’s Brexit will happen.

Sorry mutt lad don’t agree. Britain is a democracy and a democratic vote was taken. You cannot have another vote because some don’t like it. The democratic way is to leave with the option to return at a later date if one party uses a referendum as an election sweetner. The country voted out end of so we must leave. If we go back someday then fine it will have been at the electorates decision. After all that is what politics is supposed to be built on.

Similarly Farage and all those who want a hard Brexit will have to make do with (at best) a Brexit with some sort of Customs Union, regulatory alignment, payment into the EU Coffers etc etc. But hey, we left the EU and that’s what the 52% wanted. ;)

You do know the vote was advisory and had no legal binding to it? No-one needed to do anything.
It’s just that May decided to leap ahead to curry popular flavour.
What should have happened is that everyone should have sat down and thought what does that mean? Why are people thinking that way?
Do we need to change our relationship within the EU, as people aren’t (marginally) happy with it, or should we leave? If the latter, how should we do that? What deal would we want? All of this consideration to be done before leaping headlong over the cliff with no safety net.
The Tory party want a rerun of the leadership election held a year ago because opinions have changed.

Cameron’s / Conservatives manifesto on the lead up to the 2015 election pledged to hold a referendum on EU membership if the Conservatives won the next general election, which they did by a majority. (could this have been the first brexit vote?)
In his Chatham House speech about the referendum, Mr Cameron said to the British people, “this will be your decision” – “Not politicians”, “not parliament”, “not lobby groups”….. Oh, & there will be no second referendum!
For the last three years we’ve seen all of the afore mentioned trying their best to go against the public vote.
Cameron & Osborne told the public In the immediate aftermath of a vote to leave in 2016 the UK would fall into recession & 600k people would be made redundant etc etc etc.. ?
It’s difficult to believe a word any main stream politicians says.
