Bright start for Latics……………for about 10 minutes!
Looks like a another tough season after that today.

No – not at all. I don’t think we learnt much today except that Lopez isn’t really good enough, Stam will be on loan to a Dutch club before long, Ramis looked calm on the ball, and overall we look quite good.

I don’t put anything at all on the result.

Based on a preseason friendly you are predicting a full seasons outcome…?

        Behave!

That was a great work out for the team today. Some nice football from both sides and some hefty challenges going in all through he match. If it had been an EPL game, there would have been at least 7 bookings and 2 sendings off.
Thought Ramis looked very comfortable on and off the ball, at times telling Caldwell and Alcarez were to go.

Now it gets a bit controversial, I thought the MOM by a whisker ahead of Maloney was Master Jordie Gomez. :woohoo: goodpost

Fan of the day by a country mile was the Spaniard wearing the RCD Mallorca top and waving the flag, sat with the directors and prawn sandwich brigade.

          From Matlock to ManU
          What a journey!

Is this you trying to re-create Loudmouthblue’s St Mirren moment? Quite why anyone would put any real import on any pre-season friendly is beyond me.

That said, I agree that Ramis and Gomez played well, as did Caldwell. Di Santo also looked quite lively early on but it was a bit worrying that Boselli ony had about three touches, according to my rough calculations. And Beausejour needs some serious crossing practice.

Also, Boycey is too old to be wearing white boots.

I was just a little concerned that everything seemed to be coming down the left through Beausejour.

It looks like he’s had an absolute cracker of a summer. He was never the slimmest of lads, I think he may have gathered a bit more timber.

Might give him a ring and see if he want to join our Wednesday night football. He’d fit right in with a kench like that.

Yep – I thought he looked a tad “chunkier” :)

Nice one, Vince, you’ve given the rugby trolls something to feed on

Skill of the day had to be the scoop over the defender that Moses did just in front of the West Stand

But that’s exactly part of the problem with Moses – fur coat and no knickers.

Have to say I totally agree with all of that. I’ve always had the attitude that you learn a lot more from playing a decent side and getting beat, rather than playing, with no dis-respect, Accrington and winning 4-0 at a stroll.
Look at Southampton, they faced Ajax about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Ajax are obviously a very technically-sound team with some cracking individuals. Yet the saints actually gave them a decent game, and you could say they were unlucky to lose. I’m not saying Real Mallorca were as good as Ajax, but they weren’t mugs.

As for us, we were very good in the first half but dis-jointed in the second half. Ramis looks a good signing. I also agree with the thing about all our play going via Beausajour….and to be honest, I’m still not convinced by him yet. His delivery is hit and miss at best.

I think we can definitely have a better season than last, with or without Moses. (probably without. But if he wants to warm Chelsea’s bench…..)
