[link2:p1b0eth1]Facebook page,http://www.facebook.com/pages/WAFC-Against-ModLrn-Football/159745597397370%5B/link2:p1b0eth1%5DWe are forming an opposition group, not directed at the club particually, but the way fans are taken advantage of, when theres 11 players on that pitch that couldn’t “give a monkeys” and are on a fortune. We’re against every major wrong in todays football, be it ticket prices, the way fans are treated or the way our club is run!
If it’s a wrong we CAN do something about it, but we need support, just look at FC United in showing what fans can do, by no means are we saying form a new club, but we CAN come together and make a difference!
I suppose if you don’t go to many away games, you’ll probably think, whats the problem? cheap tickets, an improving atmosphere, your probably right. But £42 to go to watch Manchester United v Wigan? The way away fans are treated up and down the country, It’s time the fans had a united voice, we want to be that voice, we want our club that we’re getting further and further away from BACK.
we will be having protests at either west ham or wolves away, and will look to a home game in the near future. we will also be making banners to help get the point accross.
we have also recieved a bit of backing from the stand up sit down campaign and muddhutter. i personally am talking to fc united to get any ideas and backing of them.9 November 2010 at 10:59 pm #50556From your description, it sounds like you’re just moaning for the hell of it.
Football fans, especially Wigan fans on the whole, need to be more positive imo.
We don’t have much to moan about to be honest, low ticket prices, no boardroom turmoil, no managers getting sacked freuqently, we’ve been part of a revolution in the past 15 years.
Need I go on?
9 November 2010 at 11:15 pm #50557no not at all. it opposes things that are wrong with football be it player wages to over the top policing/stewarding. its also to help give the game back to the fans, i for one feel like clubs are forcing the working class out of the working class sport. you only need to look at man utd and arsenal for evidence of that. we oppose franchise in football we oppose the ridicules player wages.
9 November 2010 at 11:24 pm #50560Doesn’t the FSF Football Supporters Federation) publically do this? and has done for many years on this and a host of other ‘problems’ in our game.
Also the Wigan Athletic Supporters Club tends to be the official voice for Latics fans, have you approached them? I guess not as you have formed another group.
9 November 2010 at 11:27 pm #50561Well fair play, if you see a point worth making then make it.
Yet people have been protesting against ridiculous wages/overpriced tickets for years, yet it’s had little/no effect.
9 November 2010 at 11:37 pm #50562i didnt know anything of the supporters club doing anything like this mate if iam honest.
yes i know people have been protesting but you never actually see protests at the stadiums and now is the time to make ourselves heard (we also have a UK group up and running in the last hour) so that will ensure its a nationwide thing.
9 November 2010 at 11:42 pm #50564Okay, well good luck with it anyway pal.
9 November 2010 at 11:52 pm #50568cheers. 8-)
10 November 2010 at 12:35 am #50573No need for Facebook pages, just don’t go again. I took the decision 4-5 years back.
I gave up on football, not WAFC, on firmly held principles and the ones you state are a few.
10 November 2010 at 12:54 am #50576i couldnt bring myself to stop going now mate, im not going to stop supporting the club iv been brougth up supporting when we could use campaigns to correct anything wrong with the game. fan power is a massive thing and quite under rated
10 November 2010 at 1:01 am #50579Best of luck then.
10 November 2010 at 2:06 am #50589If Man U fans etc are willing to pay £42 each week then I have little sympathy. The only way to make a real protest is for them to boycott their clubs and let the sky cameras show empty grounds with no atmosphere. I’m not prepared to stump up that sort of money (as much as I would like to go), but fair play to Blackburn for making an away game affordable and as a result they had a decent turnout.
The problem with our club is not the season tickets, but the fact that it is too complicated for a casual to get a cheapish ticket. Forget Christmas Crackers/junior stripes/bring a mate for a fiver/4 for £60 or whatever it was and the like. It is at least £15 for a casual junior to turn up and watch. That’s the same as a junior at Old Trafford. I know people who when they have a free day would go and watch football on the spur of the moment but at least £40 for a lad and dad is far too much for them. £10 and £5 at Blackburn. Simple and affordable with them more likely to come back for more.
As to the campaign – surely it’s now time that football fans should be allowed a drink in their seats. Apart from the kid who sits behind me who spills his coke every week that is…
10 November 2010 at 2:43 am #50598i havnt thought about that one much, i simply cant get my head past the thought of the lads at the back (of which iam one) at away games throwing their ale everywhere everytime we score

We’re against every major wrong in todays football……Sorry, I don’t know you personally, but what an absolute crock of shyte this is. Your username stands up to scrutiny.
Players’ wages are high because of the money pumped into football which is directly connected to the global demand for football. If nobody wanted to watch it, nobody would pay for the rights to see it etc.
Ticket prices are high (although not at Wigan, so why jump on the bandwagon?) because top class players are expensive – see above.
I’ve never been treated – what I consider to be – badly as an away fan in the UK. Have you, and if so, why? Segregation, stewarding and policing are put in place for a reason, and that reason is not to deliberately antagonise football supporters. Are you taking a leaf from the book of other clubs’ supporters who have been treated badly overseas?
Man U etc charge you £42, because that’s what the home fans pay. They don’t need you there, so if you don’t like it, don’t go.
What is wrong with the way the club is run? It’s in less debt than most clubs and we are still punching above our weight.
‘clubs are forcing the working class out of the working class sport. you only need to look at man utd and arsenal for evidence of that’
What? They still have 80,000 on most weeks. Yes, they are staying away in their droves aren’t they? There’s a waiting list for season tickets at both clubs. It’s ten quid a ticket at some Wigan games, and we still don’t get a full house. What do you want? Free entry and a lard butty? Is that working class enough for you?
As for the ‘stand up, sit down’ debate, as long as there are pr/cks watching football (please refer to your point about being treated badly as an away supporter) it will never happen.Good luck with the Athletico Wigan offshoot, and lobbying UEFA to get £150 season tickets instead of £350. I hope you manage to get yourself on the telly. Alternatively, go and watch Ashton or Bamber Bridge etc. They tick all your boxes.

How dare you use the good name of Wigan Athletic in your campaign. As they said in Monty Python and the Holy Grail… Well I didnt vote for you.
