After emailing the Efl concerning the way they punish the wrong people I received a typical fob off response. I then replied with same questions worded differently as they said they weren’t sure what my specific queries or complaints were.?????…..This is my response…”.It isn’t clear ?. Really ?….Specifically, why do you continually punish the innocent parties at every club ie the club staff, players, supporters by deducting 3 pts, possibly more next season ?.Who have NOT been in breach of any Efl regulations ,which in turn puts the future of the football club and the livelihood of its staff in serious doubt. If the owners are responsible for failing to pay staff wages on time etc…….punish the owners directly. So the question is simple. Why not punish the owners directly?????? Aren’t they the ones who failed to meet the wage payments? Not the poor staff.Sheffield fail to make payments, no points deducted (Pointless embargo),Reading failed to adhere to the business plan(Still no points deducted). Huddersfield, Burnley submitted accounts late(No points deducted)…….Wigan points deducted immediately!!!!….Shocking inconsistencies. “

This is their reply as expected “Wigan Athletic
        Hello ….

Thank you for your further e-mail and for clarifying your complaint.

Whilst we fully acknowledge that it will be a difficult time for Wigan supporters, the EFL is a member organisation made up of 72 Clubs each with an equal voting power when it comes to voting on Regulations. It is ultimately, the Clubs who decide on these regulations and the expectation is on the EFL to uphold them. The Regulations provide the framework for how the EFL can act following a breach of the regulations.

We also note you have made reference to a number of other Clubs across the EFL, all of whom are subject to the same Regulations, and the EFL will act in accordance with the Regulations should any Club be found in breach.

With regards to Wigan Athletic, as you will know, the Club was previously charged and sanctioned for failing to adhere to the terms of the Standard Contracts that were in force between the Club and Players in June, July and October last year. The latest infringement meant that the terms of the Agreed Decision the Club and the League entered into in January were breached. You can see the January statement HERE.

As the matter has now been referred to an Independent Disciplinary Commission, the EFL are unable to comment further at this time.

Thank you for contacting the EFL.

        Kind Regards

        Danny

Remember we will be facing another charge relating to the failure to set us the safety net fund. There will be a points deduction which will now be applied next season. The same applies to the 12pt deduction should we again go into administration. So in a nutshell this owner has absolutely F@@@@@@ us up. Still silence…..apart from Caulker……and I support all the players in their stance. 1 season after the final day at Shrewsbury……..can any of us believe where our club finds itself………nightmare.

I have a feeling and Kendrick has hinted as well there might be a takeover soon hence the silence while a deal is struck.

My thoughts are, if it’s true and Jasmi wants out then why didn’t he just put us up for sale mid last year when the fiance problem arose. Why wait till you’ve car crashed it then flog the write off ?.

                Dear Wigan Athletic Fans,

Thank you for your incredible patience. Football clubs are driven by their fans and I have seen the passion and support you have shown this Club and our players.

I am very conscious that the current uncertainty surrounding the club is not helpful and I hope this letter will add some clarity and transparency to the current situation.

Firstly, I can now confirm our players wages have been paid.

I can only apologise for the delay and the stress it’s caused the players and staff involved as well as you, the fans and wider stakeholders.

I think it is important to be as honest and open with you as possible. As the Club statement dated 10 March stated, we had a cash flow issue which caused the delay.

This issue has now been resolved and I can assure you that the late payment of wages will not happen again. It simply cannot happen again.

I appreciate you have heard that message from me before and as I said from day one and as you have rightly reminded me, “actions speak louder than words.” That is something I now must prove to you and I must rebuild trust with our players, staff and of course, you, the fans.

I will be in Wigan myself next week and I will be ensuring I am out in the community, to meet as many of you as I can in that time, to help start the re-build of that trust and move forward together. I will also be happy to address any questions staff, players, fans and partners may have, in person.

I also want to inform you of a change at Board level with the news that Malachy Brannigan has left the Club.

Mal has worked tremendously hard on leading this Club as Chief Executive through some of our darkest days. On behalf of the whole board and the Club, I want to truly thank him for his dedication and commitment to Wigan Athletic.

Mal went on to help the Club achieve the prestigious Fan Engagement Award at both the prestigious Football Business Awards and the Sports Industry Awards events, before he was named as the fcbusiness CEO of the Year.

It was not, by any means, an easy decision, but Phoenix 2021 and the Club have chosen to move in a new direction and a decision on Mal’s successor will be announced in due course.

I have already admitted that mistakes have been made during my time here in my second full season as Wigan Athletic Chairman, but we now must look forward together and aim to finish the season as strong as possible with our manager Shaun Maloney at the helm.

Shaun and his staff have worked relentlessly since he was appointed and we have all seen in the last few weeks the improvement in both the team and individuals. The connection between the manager, players and fans is back and this progress is the first step in our long-term journey together. He has my and the Board’s full support.

We have already held discussions, this week, whilst in Bahrain about next season, with firm plans in place. We will continue to work together in the summer to assess the squad before adding the right quality of player to aid our aims and ambitions next season, in-line with an agreed budget to ensure sustainability of the Club.

It’s important for us to be financially responsible going forward, and we’re fully committed to doing so. Beginning next season, we’ll operate within our means and we will prioritise maintaining a solid financial standing. Our strategies for the upcoming transfer window and beyond will take this into account and we’re determined to build a sustainable future for the Club in line with a modern data-backed approach.

At our Club, our Academy will play a crucial role in supporting the first team. We recognise the immense value of supporting our up-and-coming players through the academy system. We are wholeheartedly committed to providing opportunities for our young athletes to hone their skills and gain the experience they need to succeed.

By investing in our Academy, we believe we will be not only securing the future of our club, but also continuing to create a clear pathway for our talented young players to make it through to the first team. We are confident that this approach will be a key factor in ensuring the long-term success of our Club.

I finally want to re-assure all Wigan Athletic fans that Phoenix 2021 is 100% committed to the Club and we will do everything we can to achieve success together.

The support of our fans and the Wigan community is an incredible motivation for me. It will never be taken for granted.

                Yours,

                Talal Al Hammad

                  One big question Mr Chairman,
Will you be setting up a holding account and place in it (as instructed in a signed agreement by the EFL) 125% of all monthly outgoings so in the event of this happening again the club can use it for emergency funds ?.

Now I know you’ve said this won’t happen again but you’ve said the same thing on 4 previous occasions so I’ve a feeling the EFL will not accept a “I’m sorry it won’t happen again”
                  Or
Do we sit back and take our punishment if it does happen again.

I’m sure the EFL won’t let this event ride and more points will be deducted before we even kick a ball in League One

It seems that Brannigan has been sacked and some of the blame will be pointed at him this will soon come out in the press.

I suppose someone’s head had to roll and Jasmi isn’t going to sack Tel Al. At the end of the day the purse strings are held by the owners/stakeholders and the expensive decision to sack both Richardson and Toure was not made by Brannigan it was made my Jasmi and Tel Al.

I wonder if Jackson get offers the job?, that wouldn’t shock me one iota.
There’s a couple of things that concern me. Tel Al refers to the youth system been the answer.
This looked like a copy/paste job from March 21 when he first said the exact same thing and 2 years on one player in Hughes has come through and fcuk all progress to build an acedemy.
Then the stakeholders basically calling the shots,
Who the fuck are they that control our fianances. I’m sorry I can’t trust them it’s gone. There’s things that don’t add up and the way they think they can simply say Errr sorry is wrong.
To win us fans over you can start of by,

Put the fcukin money in the holding account before the EFL dock us more points then when this happens again we don’t get 12 points deducted.

“It wont happen again “….typical response of a serial offender. Cw right…..put the 125% wage money in the holding account as ordered. I’d have thought the EFL would have monitored this to ensure they adhered to the stipulation. Hope to F### they do this time. Build trust !!!……Absolute zero left in my locker. Still an outside chance of a wonder escape, but knowing the tossers at the Efl they’ll probably alter the cut off for our possible 2nd points deduction to last game. Brannigan???…..who knows the truth? Did he walk, pushed?.Does he shoulder some of the blame ? Possibly…….Nda/Pay off.?….maybe. How’s about this possible scenario!….”.F### me !,I’m outta here!!….I don’t need this grief ….Can’t work for these career ending dollopers anymore “!!!…Yes we’ll still exist next season but instead of consolidating our position in the championship we’re now destined to be starting league 1 with a threadbare (sustainable)squad, minus points and with owners I personally find difficult to trust again. Pleased remember paying your staff wasn’t discretionary……it was a legal obligation!!!!!!…..The 1st basic requirement of a business plan and they bollocked that up 4 or even 5 times. So how the F%%% can anyone believe any of the rhetoric spewed yesterday is beyond me. Better the devil you know my arse……

Because there’s no clear truthful answers as to how & why we actually got in the state were in its left us as fans in a permanent state of paranoia.

I don’t like the idea of stakeholders/investors hidden behind screens been in charge of our finances with their fingers on the live or die button.

This is so reminiscent of the Hong Kong gang who had a similar set up and we all know what happened when they woke up one morning and said
“Sorry chaps that’s it no more dosh”.

Tel Al must think we can just simply move on when the last 9 months came to a crashing end and basically sent us down and will it will also affect us next season with more points deducted.

I’m sorry but I’m gonna find it very very difficult to move forward without using my paranoia mirrors 24/7 wondering, as soon as we go on a bad run are the mystery gang going to pull the financial plug ?.

If there’s a huge wage and overheads problem then let’s address it asap in the summer and get rid of the high earners anyway which way as possible.

We’ve lived above our means and we’ve paid the price for bad player and managerial decision’s.

I would prefer (though it will never happen) money placed into a bank account with 12 months running cost in it so as fans we can stop looking over our shoulder week in week out.

I can’t see how the bridge of trust can be rebuilt. We have no player assets to save us the next time this happens as I’m not convinced stakeholders will be best pleased with a few seasons in League One.

I’m struggling to simply enjoy my football. The regular off field antics has left this permanent black cloud of doom floating above our heads just waiting to unload another thunderstorm and rain down on us all without any notice at all

Good luck for the rest of the season and beyond. Its a tough ask to stay up, and it might not be the best thing in the long term, but I’m sure the likes of McClean & Power dont want yet another relegation on their CV and will give everything over the next 5 weeks to make sure they dont.
