15 October 2010 at 10:48 pm #48770you better be praying this is wrong , if we ever get our own stadium , your lot will be in the brown sticky stuff financially
How do you work that one out? Wigan warriors paid Wigan Ath £190,000 to use the dw last year!(taken from cherry and white) and Wigan warriors owe whelan £2 million! The turnover of the warriors is about £3.5 million a year and Wigan ath is £45 million a year!

We get bigger crowds than you and football tickets cost a lot more than rugby tickets-and if we get relegated we get sky parachute payments so yet again YOU NEED US WE DONT NEED YOU!
16 October 2010 at 3:26 am #48789not technically correct that , we need the DW , not wafc (wafc own the dw)
you really are a deluded , so even relegation is fine now !

In 2009 the chubsters paid £189.000 in rent how that justifies that we need them is beyond me considering one game televised by Sky from the DW is worth £250.000
And to add to that the bigger the gate at the chubbie match the higher the money gets paid to Sir DW over a season
Now if the chubbues get a new ground the cost of that stadium will be considerable a lot more than £189.000 a season there fore a rise in season tickets to cover the cost of said stadium would not be ruled out and a end to freebies for the likes of Jewel and his cronies

17 October 2010 at 1:36 am #48868Why would Wigan R.L.F.C. pay out £20 million for a new ground when they are only paying £200K per year to use the DW? That’s equivalent to 100 years rent.
The money from the sale of Central Park was used to fund the JJB as was the sale of Springfield Park.
The myth that Whelan completely funded the new stadium is just that, a myth. Yes he put some money into it, but not as much as is thought.
Whelan is no mug financially. Why both teams can’t just get on with supporting their teams and not sniping at the other is beyond me.

aye lad , youre never off SSp1
its a very short sighted view to rely solely on the sky money , you will not be in the premiership for ever
having revenue coming in for the stadium when not being used is just common sense
17 October 2010 at 3:56 am #48873Oooh, stop please. A rugby league fan preaching about the danger of relying on Sky money!!!!
Oh please stop, it’s hurting.

Perhaps Wigan Atheltic aren’t the first choice viewing of most football fans, but they are on Sky Sports at least once a season and that is the point. The Warriors’ rent is small potatoes. It covers one average player’s salary for three months.
The agreement Whelan made with Wigan RL is more of a PR move than a money spinner. It ensures he’s not public enemy number one with the RL crowd, and they may still buy his DW wares and use his facilities/gyms.
Rogues Gallery, you said the sale of Central Park went towards the DW, I’m sure that it was under Jack Robinson’s leadership that the ground was sold, and the money was used to pay off debts. If memory serves me well, Wigan RL were on the verge of playing at the Reebok until Whelan stepped in.
17 October 2010 at 1:00 pm #48883I’d be interested in the capacity of this new stadium would have to be at least 32,000, and much bigger than average seats. F**k me it’s going to be the size of the nou camp!
