Why all the hype about a player who has served his country well, gone the extra mile for his managers and is now at that stage in his career where it’s time for someone else to take on the mantle.

Was there this much hullaballoo when Shearer, Owen, Linaker, Beckham, Charlton, Moore et al came to the end of their careers?

Our press are a total disgrace when it comes to sport, and England Football in particular. They even try to make him the fall guy for our recent failings…..

FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

National team always needs a scapegoat. It’s his turn.

The only scapegoats that should be blamed for the underachiements of England is The Premiership and Sky.

SKY is the route of most sports problems directly or indirectly, that and the Football Clubs not agreeing to a Cap on Wages 20 years ago. 85% of money should go to Football not in players bank accounts, a max wage should hav ebeen set and let them sort out their own sponsorships and image rights to make their millions. This way the top players would still earn fantastic monay but the non achievers would not be overpaid.

I blame the managers for persisting in playing Rooney. I don’t agree with fans booing a player like he was on Saturday, after all he was trying. But a manager needs to have the balls to drop a big name when he isn’t playing well, or his natural position has a better option for it. Rooney hasn’t deserved his place in that side for a while now (IMO). And Hodgson, Allardyce & Southgate played him because of who he is… And that has resulted in all this fuss.
Glad he’s dropped, if not for Rooney’s sake.

Jimmy, I think a lot of the blame lies squarely at Hodgsons door. I felt sorry for Rooney at the Euros having to try to lead the team when the pranny of a manager was making cock-up after cock-up taking off Lallana and Dier so he could justify his love child Wilshire being there. Wazza must have been pulling his weave out as the best players on the pitch made way for an invalid. I think the Iceland game has hit him really hard so no wonder the lads confidence and form are shot to bits. He is only 30 and is at no age yet to retire. It also says a lot of his character when he is prepared to play in any position. I hate Utd with a passion and I think a lot of this anti Rooney stuff is borne out of him being a red but I’m not sure he should get this treatment for his England appearances. Hodgson has a lot to answer to for the disaster at the Euros but he has gone so Rooney is the obvious fall guy.

Hodgson was one if the worst England managers in my opinion. But is Rooney a midfielder? It’s ok playing anywhere on the pitch but you will invariably look poor at times? Mr Ferguson started the out of position role for Rooney but he had some good players around him which helps.
Might not be a bad thing for Rooney to leave utd for a club that will play him up front. As he has been quality at club level in the past..
