If for some reason it doesn’t work out for him and he ends up getting the sack, the Wigan Evening Post might want to save this headline….’That’s The Way The Cookie Crumbles’ ;)[/quote

Cheery soul as ever eh fil lol

i was being cheery! I don’t mind him being our new manager, just glad that the backroom staff have gone as we needed a change! Roll on the new season! :)

I’m away at the moment, at my holiday home in France, so I’ve only heard bits and bobs.

Really happy we have got him as manager. Looking forward to the new season.

I also like how he has been allowed to bring in his own staff.

Sometimes getting rid of the backroom staff at the same time as the manager is a bad idea (ie Moyes at Man Utd), but there’s only so many times a manager can fail whilst the backroom team survive before one wonders why they keep escaping the axe. For the likes of GB, whilst he may be a club legend, he was part of the system that has failed repeatedly. The only person who survives that sort of regime is the guy who funds it!

With Coyle, Rostler, McKay, Caldwell & Joyce all failing in the role, the time had long-since come to appoint a new backroom team.

          Good luck next season!

It’s a fallacy that it’s been the same backroom team since we got relegated from the prem. Coyle, Rosler, McKay & Joyce all brought their own back room staff in & binned off member of the old regimes to a lesser or greater extent.
It’s only really Barrow who has been an ever present & even he, by his own admission, was sidelined by some of them.
Atherton & Parky survived a few of them & Caldwell promoted from within but for most of the managers Atherton & Parky were reserve team coaches.

Well I’m really happy with the appointment and better still excited after what’s been said over the last few days. From Cookie himself to Sharpey they are making the right noises and pre season cannot come quick enough for a change. Keep what we have and that trophy will be back in our cabinet for a 3rd time.

Providing we can keep around 95% of the current team & maybe add 3 – 4 decent signings. No loan players & not too many ins & outs.

Loan signings can be brilliant if the right players are brought in. Where would Bristol City be now had they not had Tammy Abraham?. We ourselves have had some superb guys in on loan the likes of Cleverly so that doesn’t worry me as long as Sharpey has learned his lesson and if we go down that route we get it right. Who can ever forget the impact 2 loanees had on our season back in 81-82. Namely Archie Gemmill and Eamonn O,Keefe.

I think most would agree with you but on the other side of the coin having loanees in large numbers does nothing to improve the squad. One or two quality players on short term ok but shed loads of average or inexperienced players no thankyou and especially with ridiculous clauses in the terms like we have witnessed lately.

Oh you spot on Donny, like I said lets hope lessons have been learned.

If they do think of getting loanees in, all I hope is that they ask the parent clubs to send em here on trial first to see whether they’re any good as opposed to how it seems to have gone over the last few years I.e. We’ll take whoever you offer us & agree to play them, if fit, regardless of whether they’re crap or not

Fair point tilders but we have had plenty of success with loanees in the past.
