Action groups and iniatives are being set up for all sorts of reasons these days and fair play to them all, as making people aware of issues and increasing inclusion is a great thing.
Perhaps one should be started for football fans in general irrespective of gender, race, religion or sexual orientation.
We have been the victims of bad Police and Media reporting for many years and thought of as the lowest of the low when it comes to supporting our favoured sport.
The link below is about a group of Latics fans that went to Rotherham yesterday, but as the author explains, nothing will be in the press about it. I suppose their behaviour was how people should behave anyway, but had just one of them stepped out of line, you can be sure it would have been mentioned in the press and the over exagerated report would have tarred every fan with the same brush.
Hopefully someone from the WEP might pick up on it and do a positive piece for once on Football fans in general.
A fantastic article horc.I can’t take any credit for the article or for even being one of the 200, but I just thought that it needed putting on the forum even though a link is on the side menu to the article.
200 for Locky’s is probably a little down on the norm, latics fans have been going there for a few years now and the owner has always treated us with respect and all the staff have welcomed us and got into the spirit of the day, latics fans have responded brilliantly and always spend a few bob in return, but it is so nice for the Landlord to actually take time to endorse this.

When we went to Bruges in 2013, I got talking to one of the local shopkeepers. He said that the media and press over there had been full of it beforehand with “English hooligans coming” and all that kind of thing. I reassured him that we arent like other English clubs who have played in Belgium, and that we are a friendly club. Shook hands with him and gave him a Latics pin badge. He gave me a Club Bruges scarf. This is how football fans SHOULD be. I contacted the Bruges Police chief beforehand as well and told him we are a good bunch. After the game, they were full of praise of Latics fans.
I took a pocket full of Latics pin badges and was giving them out all day to locals and Zulte Waragem supporters. I also got a Zulte scarf. And again when they came to Wigan, I did a scarf swap and shook hands. Gave a scarf to a Maribor fan as well when they came. Almost came unstuck though, as I think he was a bit of an ultra and he and his pals looked a bit lairy as I went up to them! (hands in face shaking head)We REPRESENT our club, so why not be decent about it?
