25 mins – Wigan cannot get anything going at all offensively. The Latics, to be fair to them, have a very young and inexperienced team on show tonight. It’ll be a good learning curve for them.

29 mins – Caldwell tries to get something going for Wigan, but he woefully over-hits his pass for Redmond and the ball skips off the wet turf and out for a throw.

31 mins – Wigan are a bit of a mess at the back. The goal kick is taken short and when Robinson passes back to Welsby, he is closed down by Sears. The goalkeeper’s hurried clearance hits Robinson and falls to McCarthy, but his first-time shot is cleared off the line by Caldwell. From the resulting corner, the ball drops to Kovac, who hits a left-foot volley which hits a defender and bounces into the arms of Welsby.

Why are you remotely concerned about a reserve match?

Perhaps it might be that one or two of the players, hopefully, may be good enough for the first team at some point.
I actually go to watch the reserves at home when I can, I suppose its just a Wigan Athletic football club thing.

Same here, I tend to go most of the home reserve games & looking to go a few away one’s also.

The reserve team from when I started watching them in 2007 has always been 1st & 2nd year pro’s with a few Youth players.

The excuse for not taking more 1st team players would be that they would have to be at Training Ground by 9am – back the following morning. I wouldn’t be surprised if they refused to go (eg. De Ridder)

Either that or we are trying to blood our youth system and bring in some home grown players.

                Rubbish

I’d like to think all our reserves are good enough for the first team. That’s the idea.

But seriously… ‘live’ text commentary of a 6-minute spell of a reserve match????

0 mins: The big fella starts to read a thread, then realises he’s already read this one.

2 mins: Unlucky! The bottle of vino has one of those concave bottoms that makes it look like there’s more wine in it than there actually is. It’s less than a glass, but opening another bottle at this hour on a school night is sheer madness.

3 mins: A glass of Vimto to take to bed maybe? Surely the ‘Thought you were having an early night’ call is due from upstairs soon.

5 mins: Post a pointless thread at a late hour maybe, without one mention of Martinez?

6 mins: In it goes! A boring and meaningless post, but even so, more interesting than a slack six minutes of a Reserves game.
