Just come across this on Facebook:
“Some things put football into perspective
Season ticket holder and big Latics fan Barry Ashcroft has had a tough time time lately and has been fighting (and winning) a battle with Cancer
He’s not able to go to matches until he’s feeling a bit better and when the club where told Paul Cook recorded this video and invited Barry and his family to go down to the training ground when he’s feeling better”

Well done to the club and good luck to Barry in his fight.

Well done PC and the Latics.COYB

No chance. McManaman has a point to prove against Cook.
7 December 2019 at 6:30 am #182647Yes,well done to the club and good luck Barry.
7 December 2019 at 5:13 pm #182648fair play to the club and PC for that lovely gesture.
Let’s hope for a rare away win today to give us some hope.
Sneaky feeling we might get it , due a win now and they tend to pull out something when the pressure is on.7 December 2019 at 5:39 pm #182649I went to school with Barry – he was in my year. It certainly puts everything in life into perspective. If you are a poster on here Barry, once again, I wish you all the best & I know you will fight this.

Fuck off and get from up the clubs arse. Fuckin sick of yer snappy, bitchy attitude. Another post from you attempting to deflect the shitefest of today.
I was right, btw.
7 December 2019 at 10:18 pm #182684Come on vat. As much as you might hate the club someone fighting cancer has nothing to do with football and as a family club it is a great gesture to invite him to the training ground.

Nothing to do with the game today or even the sport. It’s a gesture from the club towards a fan that they don’t need to do. We’re quick to say they don’t care about us fans etc but this proves different.
7 December 2019 at 10:28 pm #182690Come on vat. As much as you might hate the club someone fighting cancer has nothing to do with football and as a family club it is a great gesture to invite him to the training ground.Hey listen, I wish Mr BARRY ASHCROFT all the very best in his fight…or course I do. I am a decent human being and would never wish such a thing on anyone. I fully back him and wish him and all his family only the best outcome. Without any doubt.
And yes, not saying the club gesture isnt a good one. But maybe its the cynic in me that thinks its a but convenient theyve made it all so public, and the video from Cook…in the wake of last weeks boos and derision. Am I being cynical? Am I the only person who has thought about it like that? I would be surprised if I am the only one.
But I am getting that way where I think like that about the club. The club! Fuck me, I don’t hate the club, I actually LOVE the club. But I hate what it has become. Its not the same club. It feels…different. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I just dont trust the powers that be. There is an ulterior motive somewhere…I have had others say the same to me in private.
But for Barry…christ, man, I only wish him a quick and speedy recovery. If Im being accused of being unsympathetic, thats untrue and I will never ever post again.
Life is worth more.
7 December 2019 at 10:41 pm #182693If that’s how you feel then fair enough of course you’re entitled to feel that way, but posting about it on a thread such as this is probably not the place to do it.
