2 July 2014 at 3:24 pm #132107He is a Latics fan you knowA good one too. Used to be at Springfield quite often, and if I remember rightly presented Simon Haworth with a Welsh cap on the pitch before one game.
And just because many here don’t like rugby (and I’m no great fan) it is undeniable that he was a key figure in Wigan’s recent history.
I’m no fan of ukeleles either (sorry, Bernard if you read this), but it doesn’t mean the town shouldn’t equally honour George Formby.

If they are erecting statues of rugby players, in my opinion it should be of Shaun Edwards. He’s much more famous that Billy Boston ever was / ever will be in both codes of the game and he’s actually from Wigan.
2 July 2014 at 5:06 pm #132113Shaun Edwards….A face that could never be chiselled.
At least people would be too scared of his grid to go near enough to piss on it.

He’s not lived long enough yet and is still involved in the game, but rest assured it will happen at some point in the future.
Do you think we’ll get a statue of Bobby?
2 July 2014 at 7:10 pm #132115Do you think we’ll get a statue of Bobby? The only people who won’t think that’s a good idea aren’t Warriors fans but those who post on here.

Could we have a statue of Bobby having his boob tube pulled down by Joe Lydon? To sort of kill to birds with one stone, so to speak?
3 July 2014 at 3:20 am #132133What the hell is 100k to The Socialist Republic of Wigan?
Peanuts! The thieving Marxist gets will just take it from your pockets yet again.
We all,we all,we all know, all the council had a go as the song went.
This council who acted so negatively against us for years and then we win the cup and they are soon around us like flies.
I am no lover of The Eggs but apparently this man was quite good so some recognition somewhere is acceptable but please equal this out with all the other sports and their individual heroes around the borough and also keep the cost down Metro.3 July 2014 at 3:57 am #132134What the hell is 100k to The Socialist Republic of Wigan?

3 July 2014 at 10:54 am #132135Beg your pardon then. So let us campaign for a Harry Lyon 100k statue to go with it too then or a Ben Watson holding the cup statue.

He should have given him a Dutch cap the big girl

“But the team behind the £100,000 project is now ready to go public – with a call on adoring Wigan fans to help pay for it” says the article in Wigan Today. They are up for collecting it for Boston. Not a word about Council funding. So why don’t you set up a group to do the same for Latics’ legends. It’s simple. Isn’t it?
3 July 2014 at 8:46 pm #132138The main person that should be honoured, in a Latics sense, is Dave Whelan. Love him or Hate him none of the last 19 years or so would not have happened without him.
Even the most blinkered of Rugby fan would have to admit that without him they would not have been in existence. Oh alright they are to twisted to admit that.
3 July 2014 at 9:11 pm #132139When the time comes, and hopefully that will not be soon, I am sure there will be a statue outside the stadium.
